X+Y=10 => X=10-Y ------(1) X-Y=4-------(2) From equation 1st and 2nd, 10-Y-Y=4 => -2Y=4-10 => -2Y=-6 => Y=6/2 => Y=3 Put Y=3 in equation 1st :- => X=10-3 => X=7 That's your answer.
