1) All the alkali metals are highly reactive elements since have a strong tendency to lose the single valence s-electron to form uni positive ions having inert gas configuration.

2) This reactivity arises due to their low ionisation enthalpies and high negative values of their standard electrode potential.

3) Due to their strong tendency to lose the single valence electron ,alkali metals also act as a strong reducing agents. Reactivity of an element is measured in terms of its reducing character.

4) Ionization enthalpy is a measure of the tendency of an atom to lose electrons in the gaseous state.Thus, lower the ionization enthalpy, greater is the tendency of an element to lose electron and hence stronger is the reducing character or higher is the reactivity of the element.

5)The ionization enthalpies of alkali metal decreases down the group, therefore, their reducing character or reactivity in the gaseous state increases from Li to Cs , i.e. Li< Na< K< Rb<Cs.

Degree of randomness

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago (2898529)

Entropy is a measure of randomness or disorder of the system.

The greater the randomness, higher is the entropy.

Solid state has the lowest entropy, the gaseous state has the highest entropy and the liquid state has the entropy in between the two.

Entropy is a state function. The change in its value during a process, is called the entropy change.

ΔS = S2 -S1 = ∑S products – ∑S reactants

1) When a system absorbs heat ,the molecules start moving faster because kinetic energy increases. Hence, disorder increases. More the heat absorbed ,greater is the disorder.

2) For the same amount of heat absorbed at low temperature, the disorder is more than at high temperature. This shows that entropy change is inversely proportional to temperature.

ΔS = qrev / T

In any parliament election a party gets 6% votes and at least 4 seats in loksabha. That party is recognise as a national party.

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago (2898529)

Every party in the country has to register with the Election Commission. It offers some special facilities for large and established parties. The Election Commission has laid down detailed criteria of the proportion of votes and seats that a party must get in order to be a recognised party.

  1. A party that secures at least 6% of the total votes in an election to the Legislative Assembly of a State and wins at least 2 seats is recognised as a State Party.
  2. A party that secures at least 6% of the total votes in Lok Sabha elections or Assembly elections in 4 States and wins at least 4 seats in the Lok Sabha is recognised as a National Party.

To use this calculator, simply enter a number and then raise it to a power. For example, if you wanted to calculate 103 enter 10 in the numbers box and 3 in the exponent or power box. The calculator will then compute 10x10x10 and give you the answer 1000. The History Window gives you a convenient way to store your results. When you have a result that you'd like to keep simply click the + Add to history button. You can easily select, copy, and paste from that window. If you put a minus in front of the number then you will get a positive or negative result depending on whether the power is an even or an odd number. Even powers will give you a positive result whereas odd powers will give you a negative result. This is because a minus number times a minus number gives you a positive answer. If you put a minus in front of the power then you will get an inverse (i.e one divided by the number raised to that power. For example, if you put 2 in the numbers box and you put -3 in the power box you get 2-3 which is equal to 1/2x2x2 = 1/8 = 0.125.

When we put gas in our car, there is a relationship between the number of gallons of fuel that we put in the tank and the amount of money we will have to pay. In other words, the more gas we put in, the more money we’ll pay. Also, the less money we pay, the less gas we’ll put in our car. This relationship depends on the price of a gallon of gas. The price is the proportionality ratio that exists between the quantity “gallons of gas” and the quantity “money it takes to fill up.”

Meanwhile, another car can fill up with a different amount of fuel than ours. The price per gallon stays the same, so the relationship between the gallons put in and the money paid is the same and therefore, filling each car’s tank with gas is proportional because they follow the same proportionality ratio.

Example: “If every gallon of gas costs $2 and I have $30 in my wallet, I’ll be able to put 15 gallons in the tank and if I wanted to put in 20 gallons, I’d have to pay $40”

Principle of Homogeneity of Equation/Dimensions -

An equation  relating physical quantities must have the same dimensions on left hand side as on the right hand side.

For example, if we know displacement, s, depends upon initial velocity, u, acceleration,a and time, t.

and ask ourselves what must be the equation connecting all these. The principle of homogeneity tells us that

if we write, displacement s on left hand side then on the right hand side, u, a and t must be combined to get displacement dimensions or units. Hence

s = ut + at2

[L] = [LT -1] [T] + [LT -2] [T]2

[L] = [L]  + [L]

So that means we can add a length to another length.

And we'll the resultant quantity with the dimensions of length.

As we can see the principle of homogeneity tells us the form of the equation, the exact equation is obtained by theoretical analysis,

and we know that the correct equation is,

s = ut + at2/2
