Sneha Solanki 2 years, 4 months ago

The first cities emerged in southern Mesopotamia because of the following reasons- i) As Mesopotamia is located between two rivers, it's geographical location palyed an important role. ii) The two rivers Euphrates and Tigris which rise in the northern mountains carry loads of silt, when they flood or their water is let out on the fields fertile silt is deposited. iii) Irrigation cannals. After river Euphrates has entered the dessert it's water flows out into small channels. These channels flood their banks and function as irrigation cannals. iv) Since water was available and the land was fertile, agriculture flourished in the region. Productive agriculture led to the development of economy and people started clustering in groups and this gave rise to cities.
