The court of director of the East India company in London sent an educational dispatch to the governor – general in India in the year 1854. As the dispatch was issued by Charles Wood, the president of the board of Control of the company, it came to be known as Wood’s Despatch. Wood’s dispatch outlined the educational policy that was to be followed in India. It criticized the Oriental knowledge and emphasized the need of European learning. The Despatch made it clear that European learning would enables Indian to recognize the benefits that would flow from the expansion of trade and commerce. It would also make them see the importance of developing country’s resources. Indians needed to adopt European ways of life because this would change their tastes and desires and create a demand for British goods. Wood’s Despatch further argued that European learning would improve the moral character on the people of India. It would make them honest and raliable and thus supply trusted civil servants to the company. The Despatch strongly cirticised the literature of the East because it was in people a sense of duty and a commitment to work.

f(x) = 4x2 + 4x - 3
{tex}\Rightarrow \quad f \left( \frac { 1 } { 2 } \right) = 4 \left( \frac { 1 } { 4 } \right) + 4 \left( \frac { 1 } { 2 } \right) - 3{/tex}
= 1 + 2 - 3 = 0
and {tex}f \left( - \frac { 3 } { 2 } \right) = 4 \left( \frac { 9 } { 4 } \right) + 4 \left( - \frac { 3 } { 2 } \right) - 3{/tex}
= 9 - 6 - 3 = 0
{tex}\therefore \frac { 1 } { 2 } , - \frac { 3 } { 2 }{/tex}are zeroes of polynomial 4x2 + 4x - 3.
Sum of zeroes = {tex}\frac { 1 } { 2 } - \frac { 3 } { 2 } = - 1 = \frac { - 4 } { 4 }{/tex}
{tex}= - \frac { \text { Coefficient of } x } { \text { Coefficient of } x ^ { 2 } }{/tex}
Product of zeroes = {tex}\left( \frac { 1 } { 2 } \right) \left( - \frac { 3 } { 2 } \right) = \frac { - 3 } { 4 }{/tex}
{tex}= \frac { \text { Constant term } } { \text { Coefficient of } x ^ { 2 } }{/tex}
Verified.
