Taplow thinks his teacher Mr Crocker-Harris is strict but not a sadist. He thinks that the teacher is unbiased, dutiful and very disciplined. He doesn't get easily impressed by anyone's efforts. He doesn't appreciate the effort of Taplow who comes to school on the last as he misses one class before. He doesn't like to be liked by others. He seems feeling less and maintains a distance from the students.

Frank is a young science teacher at the school. We get to know about him from his conversation with the boy Taplow. On the whole, he appears to be a mean and petty person. He envies Crocker-Harris, who keeps his students under control. He provokes Taplow to comment on his teacher and also to imitate his voice. This is unbecoming of a teacher to discuss his colleague with a boy. He suggests to Taplow to slip away because Crocker-Harris is late in coming and the weather is fine. Mrs Millie Crocker-Harris is a kind hearted and easy going person. She is very smart. She rescues Taplow by sending him out on an errand.

Mr Crocker-Harris appears as a stem master who is a man of principles and stickler to the rules. He believes in fair assessment of his students and is not swayed by emotions, as the man is hardly human. He is not a sadist, but strict in performance of his duties. Even on his last day at school, when he is over-busy in his own affairs, he does not neglect his duty towards his students.

Taplow was charged by Mr.Frank that he was exaggerating on the issue of Mr. Crocker Harries. Taplow made the argument about Mr. Crocker Hrries that he possesses the feeling of hatred towards others so that the others may start liking him. To this view, Taplow was charged with exaggeration. He refuted the charge by explaining how people are unable to understand the thoughts of Crocker-Harris which makes him a negative person for others. It is the other people who are unable to understand him.

Taplow was horrified to see Mrs. Crocker Harris because he and Mr. Frank were cracking jokes on her husband. He was afraid that if Mrs.Crocker Harris heard them, then she might tell it to her husband and then he wont get his remove.

Frank envies Mr Crocker-Harris for the effect he seems to have on the boys in the form. They all seem scared to death of him. He wants to know what he does: whether he beats them all or does something else which is awe inspiring. Taplow informs Mr Frank that Mr Crocker-Harris is not a sadist.

Crocker-Harris's joke was a classical joke, and it involved Latin as well. Taplow could not understand Latin well, and neither could any of his classmates. Yet he laughed at the joke because he was being polite, he felt a bit sorry for Crocker-Harris for having made a poor joke, and also because none of his other friends laughed at it.

Mr Crocker-Harries is not a sadist like some other masters. He does not get pleasure out of giving pain. If he were a sadist, he would not be so frightening. It would show he has some feelings, but he hasn’t any. He’s all dry like a nut. He seems to hate people to like him, but other masters like being liked.

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 3 months ago

Tap low is waiting for his master, Mr Crocker-Harris. He has come in to do extra work on the last day of term because he missed a day last week when he was ill. Since the weather is quite fine, he feels quite unhappy to be confined in a room. He might as well be playing golf.

Answer:
Tap low is a boy of sixteen. He is still in the lower fifth. He can’t specialise until the next term if he gets his form/division all right. Since his master, Mr Crocker-Harris has not told him the result, he will have to wait till the next day to learn his fate.

Taplow knows that a sadist gets pleasure from inflicting pain. But, according to Taplow, Mr. Crocker Harris is not a sadist because he rarely displays any human emotions. Instead Taplow finds Mr. Crocker Harris to be shrunken from within as his emotions are almost dead. He finds it strange how Mr. Harris disliked to be liked.

 Crocker-Harris and Frank are both teachers in Taplow’s school. But they are poles apart in their characters. Crocker is a very strict teacher. He is a man of discipline. He has his own principles. He is true to his duty. He never does any favour or disfavour to his students. On the other hand Frank is not true to his duty. He teaches science. He himself does not like the subject he teaches, but he calls his students slackers. He is jealous of Crocker. He encourages Taplow to say things against Crocker and mock at him. It does not behave a teacher to encourage a student against another teacher. In trying to degrade Crocker-Harris he degrades himself only.

He is given extra work on the last day of the term as punishment because he missed a day the previous week when he was ill. Mr Crocker-Harris is a hard taskmaster. That's why he gave extra work to Taplow.

Define the term banker . Explain his primary function

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 3 months ago

Statutory corporations are public enterprises brought into existence by a Special Act of the Parliament. The Act defines its powers and functions, rules and regulations governing its employees and its relationship with government departments.

They enjoy independence in their functioning and a high degree of operational flexibility. They are free from undesirable government regulation and control.

Features

Statutory corporations have certain distinct features, which are discussed as below:

(i) Statutory corporations are set up under an Act of Parliament and are governed by the provisions of the Act. The Act defines the objects, powers and privileges of a statutory corporation;

(ii) This type of organisation is wholly owned by the state. The government has the ultimate financial responsibility and has the power to appropriate its profits. At the same time, the state also has to bear the losses, if any;

(iii) A statutory corporation is a body corporate and can sue and be sued, enter into contract and acquire property in its own name;

(iv) This type of enterprise is usually independently financed. It obtains funds by borrowings from the government or from the public through revenues, derived from sale of goods and services. It has the authority to use its revenues;

(v) A statutory corporation is not subject to the same accounting and audit procedures applicable to government departments. It is also not concerned with the central budget of the Government;

(vi) The employees of these enterprises are not government or civil servants and are not governed by government rules and regulations. The conditions of service of the employees are governed by the provisions of the Act itself. At times, some officers are taken from government departments, on deputation, to head these organisations.

In this phrase, the word feet is used to describe the human beings. Transient means short living. This phrase means that human life is not permanent but temporary. The human beings have to die one or the other day but the sea is permanent . It is still going to be their after our death. Synecdoche is used here. In this a small part is used to describe the whole thing . As in this , 'feet' is used to describe the whole human beings and not only their feet.
