Main characteristic features of the tropical monsoon type of climate are:

  • In tropical monsoon type of climate, there are two dry seasons with low rainfall. For example in India, summers and winters are dry with only little rainfall. While northern parts of the country receive little rainfall during the summer season due to cyclonic depression, Tamil Nadu receives rainfall during winters. Rest of the country experiences hot and dry summers and cool and dry winters.
  • There is a distinct rainy season with very high rainfall. During the monsoon season in India, many parts of the country receive rainfall as high as 200cm. However, some parts of the country like western Rajasthan, western Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana receive very little rainfall due to relief features.
  • Rainfall in the tropical monsoon climate is seasonal in nature and is often irregular and uneven.
  • There is high annual temperature (approx. 260C) in the tropical monsoon type of climate

It experience a dry season because during the winter the monsoon moisture laden winds retreats in which the direction of winds that bring moisture in northern states is reversed and moves in the south east direction towards the Bay of Bengal.

Aditi Patil 5 years, 1 month ago (8728976)

It experiences a dry season because during the winter the monsoon winds retreat and it moves in the south-east direction. This is due to the change in the pressure conditions caused by the shifting of direct sun rays towards the equator from the Tropic of Cancer.

Allocation of resources is one of the important objectives of government budget. In a mixed economy, the private producers aim towards profit maximisation, while, the government aims towards welfare maximisation. The private sector always tend to divert resources towards areas of high profit, while, ignoring areas of social welfare. In such a situation, the government through the budgetary policy, aims to reallocate resources in accordance with the economic (profit maximisation) and social (public welfare) priorities of the country. Government can influence allocation of resources through:

(i) Tax concessions or subsidies: To encourage investment, government can give tax concession, subsidies etc. to the producers. For example, Government discourages the production of harmful consumption goods (like liquor, cigarettes etc.) through heavy taxes and encourages the use of ‘Khaki products’ by providing subsidies.

(ii) Directly producing goods and services: If private sector does not take interest, government can directly undertake the production.

In this type of agriculture, a lot of capital is invested and large-scale crops are grown in huge farms, using modern technologies, machinery, irrigation methods and chemical fertilizers. The basic characteristic of commercial agriculture is that high doses of modern inputs are used for higher productivity, such as high yielding varieties, fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, weed killers, and so on.

  1. Living things exhibit locomotory motion, they move. Animals are able to move as they possess specialized locomotory organs, for example – Earthworms move through the soil surface through longitudinal and circular muscles.  Plants move in order to catch sunlight for photosynthesis
  2. Living things respire. Respiration is a chemical reaction, which occurs inside cells to release energy from the food. Transport of gases takes place. The food that is ingested through the process of digestion is broken down to release energy that is utilized by the body to produce water and carbon dioxide as by-products.
  3. Living things are sensitive to touch (and other stimuli as well) and have the capability to sense changes in their environment.
  4. They grow. Living things mature and grow through different stages of development.
  5. One of the striking features is that living things are capable of producing offsprings of their own kind through the process of reproduction, wherein genetic information is passed from the parents to the offsprings.
