Approach to the Internal Evaluation of Disaster Management Unit 5 of Social Science

Reference is made to circular no.15/08 dated 11.04.2008 intimating the Board’s decision to evaluate Disaster Management in Social Sciences of class X through projects from the academic session 2008-09 and the Board Examination 2009 in Social Science of class X.

Change of Syllabus in German Language

Certain changes in the syllabus for German language in classes IX to XII have been made with a view to remain updated with the recent trends in the political and geographical scenario of the country. These changes are effective from 2008-2009 for classes IX and XI and from 2009-10 for classes X and XII. Change in Assessment Scheme of Social Science class X

In continuation of the circular No. 33/07 dated 24-07-2007   this is to bring to your kind notice that from the academic session 2008-09 and the Board examination 2009 in Social Science of Class X, unit 5 on Disaster Management will be evaluated only through projects.

No questions will be asked from this unit in the theory paper of Social Science. Hence, the students will be required to do project work compulsorily in Disaster management only.   The revised distribution of marks over other units of Social Science syllabus and new topics/themes of project work, class X will be communicated to the schools shortly.

Modification in external Science practical examination syllabus for class X from March 2009 Examination. Change of Syllabus in Tibetan Language

In the process of updating the syllabi for its curriculum document 2010 Vol. II the Board has revised the Tibetan language syllabus for IX, X & XI, XII.

It has also been decided to implement the new syllabus for Classes X & XII from the academic session 2008-09 itself for those students who are appearing in the Board examination AISSE & AISSCE in 2009.  (Classes X & XII Syllabus enclosed).  It may be noted that certain changes have also been made in the text books prescribed for this purpose.

Introduction of Japanese Language in classes IX & X

As you may be aware the Board has introduced Japanese Language as one of the optional foreign languages in the schools affiliated to CBSE from classes VI to VIII in the years 2006-07,2007-08, 2008-09 respectively.  The textbooks along with the  workbooks prepared by the Japan Foundation in consultation with the Board were made available to schools which introduced the language in these classes.

It has now been decided to introduce the language for class IX in the academic year 2009-10 and the Board Examination for class X would be held in the year 2011. The syllabus prepared for class IX & X are enclosed.

Modifications in Nepali Language Syllabus

Change of Syllabus in Nepali Language for classes IX, X (Code – 024) and for Classes XI & XII (Code-124) from academic session 2008-09

In consonance with the changes made in the Nepali language syllabus for IX, X & XI & XII by the Directorate of Education, Govt. of Sikkim, CBSE also has revised its syllabus for these classes which has been incorporated in its Curriculum for 2010 – Volume II.

Further, it is informed that in respect of Classes X & XII for academic session 2008-09 & appearing for AISSE & AISSCE 2009 Exams, the New Syllabus will be applicable. (Classes X & XII Syllabus enclosed).

Online List of CBSE Board Candidates

CBSE board examinations for 2009 are starting from 2 Mar 2009 and the list of candidates has been prepared by Central board of secondary education, New Delhi. The list of candidates for board examinations 2009 is given school wise. Central board of secondary education issues and affiliation number and School identification number to each and every school that is affiliated to it. This identification number and affiliation number is required while getting the list of candidates online.

Modification in external Science practical examination syllabus

The salient features of the scheme included :

a) One Theory paper of weightage 60 marks with duration of 2.5 hours.
b) A year-end school based practical examination for 20 marks.
c) A separate paper on practical skill based multiple choice questions of weightage 20 marks and duration of 1.5 hours.

Thus a relative weightage of 60 marks and 40 marks was assigned to theory and practical work in the subject in the restructured syllabus. Class X March 2007 examination of the Board was conducted on the basis of above scheme.

Grading system in CBSE from next session

Central Board of Secondary Education is going to introduce grading system for all classes from next session that is year 2009-2010. This announcement was made by Sh. Vineet Joshi, secretary of the CBSE during National Sahodaya conference of principals, held recently at Bhopal.

The students who will pass their class 10 board examination in March 2010 will be awarded grades at the place of Marks. It will be implemented in classes 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 also.
