Rapid urbanisation means rapid growth in the number of industries and internal migration to cities which lead to the pressure on existing water sources around the cities. Over exploitation of natural sources like water is disturbing the environment in many ways:
1) Over population leads to over utilisation of water resources
2) Urbanisation adds to water pollution
3) Lack of rain water harvesting structures like ponds, lakes etc.
4) Poor waste management and sewage treatment
