The story The Portrait of the Lady by Khushwant Singh revolves around the story of the author and his relationship with his grandmother. The author's mother was a deeply religious woman who was very kind hearted. She epitomised purity and peace of mind which is very well written as an expanse of pure white serenity. Though she wasn't beautiful physically, she possessed deep spiritual beauty. She took great delight in feeding birds and animals.
The story begins with the narrator describing how old his grandmother was. The thought of the authors old grandmother being young and pretty, in early years of her life, raised a conflict in the mind of the author. Her hair was white as snow and she had a little stoop in her back.
When Singh was a child and his parents were away he was brought up by his grandmother who used to wake him up and get him ready for school. While performing this daily chore, she used to sing prayers which she wanted him to learn by heart but in vain. She would walk with him to and from his school. On their way back, they would throw chappatis to the village dogs.
When his parents settled in the city Singh went to stay in the city with her. This was a turning point in the relationship he shared with her. He disliked many things taught in the school. She could no longer help him with his lessons. A small gap had developed between them which wasn't very prominent. She didn't accompany him to school any long.

THE PULSE India’s Universal Basic Income Debate A closer look at a controversial issue. By Ibu Sanjeeb Garg February 01, 2017 Credit: Flickr/ Nicolas MirguetADVERTISEMENT India has always firmly held its ground as a welfare state. Since independence the country has undertaken projects aimed at improving the health, nutrition, and education levels of its citizens. Such projects have included a heavy dose of direct government intervention, in the form of Direct Benefit Transfer subsidies and others. A paradigm shift in Indian welfare came in 2006 when the government launched the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, later called MNREGA. In this scheme people from the rural areas were offered a guaranteed 100 days of wage employment for Indians in rural areas. While the jury is still out on how MNREGA has changed the rural landscape, it cannot be denied that some areas have indeed prospered with the implementation of the scheme. It is against this backdrop of history that the question of Universal Basic Income in India must be addressed. Universal Basic Income or UBI essentially means that each citizen would be given a certain amount of money as income on a yearly basis. Such ideas are being discussed because new disruptions in the global economy, like migration and automation, threaten to take away traditional wages from a large number of citizens. The idea of implementing UBI in India has caught the imagination of policy analysts and general observers alike since the announcement by the chief economic advisor that there is a plan to devote a chapter to UBI in the forthcoming economic survey. While some commentators have opined that it would indeed be a welcome step, others have reasoned that the same would result in a further fiscal burden on the already weakened Indian economy.

Sedimentary rocks are formed by the deposition and subsequent cementation on the material at the Earth’s surface within the bodies of water.
Sedimentation is the combined name for all the processes that cause organic and mineral particles to get settle. The particle that helps in forming the sedimentary rock is called sediment. This sediment is formed with the help of erosion and weathering from the source area and which is then transported to the deposition place by the wind, water, ice and glaciers which are agents of denudation.
The sedimentary rocks are classified into three different types: Organic, Clastic and Chemical Sedimentary Rocks.

Organic Sedimentary Rocks

This rock type mainly comprises of coal and limestones which is formed due to accumulation and deposition of dead plants and animals in rock layers.

Clastic Sedimentary Rocks

This type of rock is formed when rock layers are formed due to the mechanical weathering of different rock types.

Chemical Sedimentary Rocks

This rock type is formed when there is a chemical reaction between minerals, present in rock forms cools down as precipitate and converts to rock form over a period of time.

Photograph by Shirley Toulson is a tender yet a jolting piece that revolves around the universal theme of loss and separation – an inevitable reality that is a common lot of mankind. Through the stock symbol of a photograph, evoked in many literary pieces to denote nostalgia and remembrance, the poet articulates the void she feels upon having made uncomfortable peace with her mother’s death. The poem is tender because of the heart-touching manner in which it has expressed nostalgia born of loss to the passage of time and the final rest; the jolting attribute comes from the harsh message it sends across about how humans can never be entirely adept at accepting irreversible separation from a loved one.

Bryophyta, the division of green plants, refers to embryophytes which in literal terms, are land plants, especially the non-vascular ones. This division includes- Mosses – class Bryopsida Liverworts – class Marchantiopsida Hornworts – class Anthocerotopsida The only prime feature of a bryophyte is that it does not have true vascular tissue. Some do have specialized tissues which are used to transport water, but are not considered to be a true vascular tissue due to the lack of lignin. Bryophytes are believed to evolve from charophytes and are considered to have been the first true plants to have ever evolved.

Geography is an integrated discipline.
1. Geography and History: The geographical factors have modified the course of history in different parts of the world. Every geographical phenomenon undergoes change through time and can be explained temporarily. The changes in landforms, climate, vegetation, economic activities, occupations and cultural developments have followed a definite historical course.

2.Geography and Civics: The core concern of political science is territory, people and sovereignty while political geography is also interested in the study of the state as a spatial unit as well as people and their political behaviour.

3. Geography and Economics: Economics deals with basic attributes of the economy such as production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Each of these attributes also has spatial aspects and here comes the role of economic geography to study the spatial aspects of production, distribution, exchange and consumption.
