The restraint and composure with which the children handled themselves in the moment of crisis boosted the morale of the narrator and spurred him onto action. He realized that if his children could exercise such remarkable self-control with the possibility of death looming over their heads, then he as a grown man could also show courage and determination under duress and take them to safety. It dawned on him that he somehow had to make it for them. He saw how his boys were cheerful and optimistic and most importantly, how his little girl did not fret over her injuries and how his little boy was not afraid of death. Such resilience pushed him to take the reigns of their safety into his own hands and achieve what had seemed to be impossible.

Desai is critical of welfare states like Britain, USA and countries in Europe. He argues that the claims of these states are exaggerated, while they are not even able to provide basic social and economic security to their citizens. They are unable to reduce economic inequality. The process of development in these states is not independent of market fluctuations. A high level of unemployment alongside excess economic capacity indicates the failure of welfare state. Therefore, A.R. Desai is critical of the claims made on behalf of welfare state and concludes that its existence is a myth.

Art is a form of work that is the expression of emotions. Craft is a form of work, which results in a tangible output, for example, moulding and carving.
Art is often described as unstructured and open ended. It has no limitations of expression, just like in painting. Craft on the other hand is structured, which means that it has a certain form that is visible.

H = u²/(2g)
H = 20²/(2×10)
H = 20 m
The ball will reach 20 m high from the point of projection.
It reaches 20 + 20.5 = 40.5m high from the ground.
(b)
t1 = 2u/g
t1 = 2×20/10
t1 = 4 seconds
If v is the velocity with which it hits the ground then,
v = √(u² + 2aS)
v = √(20² + 2×10×25)
v = 30 m/s
v = u + at
t2 = (v - u)/g
t2 = (30 - 20)/10
t2 = 1 second
Time taken for it to hit the ground = t1 + t2
= 4 + 1
= 5 seconds
Note: I took g = 10m/s².

Two types of population growth patterns may occur depending on specific environmental conditions:
- An exponential growth pattern (J curve) occurs in an ideal, unlimited environment
- A logistic growth pattern (S curve) occurs when environmental pressures slow the rate of growth
Exponential Growth
- Exponential population growth will occur in an ideal environment where resources are unlimited
- In such an environment there will be no competition to place limits on a geometric rate of growth
- Initially population growth will be slow as there is a shortage of reproducing individuals that may be widely dispersed
- As population numbers increase the rate of growth similarly increases, resulting in an exponential (J-shaped) curve
- This maximal growth rate for a given population is known as its biotic potential
- Exponential growth can be seen in populations that are very small or in regions that are newly colonised by a species
Logistic Growth
- Logistic population growth will occur when population numbers begin to approach a finite carrying capacity
- The carrying capacity is the maximum number of a species that can be sustainably supported by the environment
- As a population approaches the carrying capacity, environmental resistance occurs, slowing the rate of growth
- This results in a sigmoidal (S-shaped) growth curve that plateaus at the carrying capacity (denoted by κ)
- Logistic growth will eventually be seen in any stable population occupying a fixed geographic space
