Change in gravitational potential energy of a system is defined as the -ve of the work done by the gravitational force as the configuration of the system is changed.

Uf - Ui = Wgr

Change in gravitational potential energy of two point masses m1 and m2 as their separation is changed from r1 to r2 is given by
U(r2) - U(r1) = Gm1m2 [1/r1 - 1/r2]

If, at infinite separation, gravitational potential energy is assumed to be zero, then the gravitational potential energy of the above two point mass system at separation r,
U(r) = -G m1m2/r

Torque is the tendency of a force to cause or change the rotational motion of a body. It is a twist or turning force on an object. Torque is calculated by multiplying force and distance.
The SI units of torque are newton-meters or N*m. Even though this is the same as Joules, torque isn't work or energy so should just be newton-meters.

Kavish Gaur 6 years, 10 months ago

The turning effect of force is torque and its unit is newton metre

One characteristic of every standing wave pattern is that there are points along the medium that appear to be standing still. These points, sometimes described as points of no displacement, are referred to as nodes. There are other points along the medium that undergo vibrations between a large positive and large negative displacement. These are the points that undergo the maximum displacement during each vibrational cycle of the standing wave. In a sense, these points are the opposite of nodes, and so they are called antinodes.

Fajans' rule states that a compound with low positive charge, large cation and small anion has ionic bond where as a compound with high positive charge, small cation and large anion are covalently bonded. NaCl is correctly predicted to be ionic since Na+ is a larger ion with a low charge and Cl− is a smaller anion.

Pteridophytes display differentiation. The plant body can be divided into a true root, stem, and leaves. A saprophyte is the main plant body here. Some of the species belonging to this division have small leaves called as the microphylls. For example, Selaginella. Megaphylls are the large leaves that some pteridophytes have. For Example Fern plants. The main plant bears the sporangia. These bear some leaf-like appendages called the sporophylls. In a few species such as Selaginella and Equisetum, the sporophylls form compact structures called cones or strobili.
