Surface Tension

  • Surface tension is the property of the liquid surface which arises due to the fact that surface molecules have extra energy.
  • Surface energy is the extra energy which the molecules at the surface have.
  • Surface tension is the property of the liquid surface because the molecules have extra energy.
  • Surface energy is defined as surface energy per unit area of the liquid surface.
  • Denoted by ’S’.
  • Mathematically :-
    • Consider a case in which liquid is enclosed in a movable bar.
    • Slide the bar slightly and it moves some distance (‘d’).
    • There will be increase in the area, (dl) where l=length of the bar.
    • Liquids have two surfaces one on the bar and other above the bar. Therefore area=2(dl)
    • Work done for this change =Fxdisplacement.
    • Surface tension(S)=Surface Energy/area
    • Or Surface Energy=S x area
    • =Sx2dl
    • Therefore S x 2dl =F x d
  • S = F/2d

For animal kingdom: take 10 boxes, amd write the name of each phylum there. Take some 30 to 40 flashcards which have unique properties of some phyla or different animal names. Then ask your class to classify these cards into those 10 boxes. For biological classification: Make a model of herbaria to explain isotype and lectotype, collect pictures of dead species in a meuseum, and make a chart on taxonomic key, you may get this model of taxonomic key from previous years NSO paper also. For plant kingdom: write names of plants on flash cards, from different divisions, and ask your classmates to classify them as haplontic, diplontic, and haplo-diplontic. Include excetions like sargassum and fucus which are algae but still haplo-diplontic, and laminarin, ectocarpus, dictyota which are again algae, but still diplontic. Long answer, but I hope it helps:)

The title is quite justified. Here the author has compared life with a water body and birth is taken as one end and death another .In hindi the shore of a river is called ghat and hence death is called the ghat of the only world ,only world here means the only world known to us - i.e,our own little world.

Negative feedback mechanism:

Whenever there is a change in the normal state, the messages are sent to ‘increase’ secretions if there is a fall below normal or to ‘decrease’ secretions if there is a rise above normal to restore the normal body state. Such a mechanism is called a negative feedback mechanism.
