The central location of India at the head of the Indian Ocean is considered of great significance because -
- It has given India a strategic advantage due to the Trans Indian ocean routes which connect the countries of Europe in the West and the countries of East Asia.
- This helps India to establish close contact with West Asia, Africa and Europe from the Western coast and with Southeast and East Asia from the Eastern coast.
- The vast coastline and the natural harbors have benefited India in carrying out trade and commerce with its neighboring and distant countries.
- It has given India a distinct climate than the rest of the Asian Continent

Historians often try to understand the meaning of sculpture by comparing it with textual evidence so that they can gain an insight into why the sculpture was created.
The "Sanchi Stupa" is one of the oldest Buddhist Sculptures located on a hill top at Sanchi town near Bhopal. It was first commissioned by Samrat Ashoka in the "3rd Century BCE". It had been abandoned for nearly 600 years till it was discovered by the Europeans in 1818.
To understand the complex structure and its significance the historians minutely studied the textual evidence. They discovered several inscriptions which were slokas from the Rig Veda. Some were addressed to God Agni. The shape and architecture of the stupa was typically Buddhist. Some engravings disclosed the close meaning of the sculpture. Thus the historians gained a better insight to the meaning of the sculpture by comparing it with textual evidence.

- In Mendeleev’s periodic table, the noble elements were not included in the table as they were not discovered at that time.
In Modern periodic table, the noble elements were placed in group 18 as a last and separated group.
- In Mendeleev’s periodic table, elements with larger atomic weights were placed before elements with smaller atomic weight without any justified reason.
In modern periodic table, all were arranged systematically with increasing atomic number and weight too.
- In Mendeleev’s periodic table, some different elements were grouped together while some similar elements were placed in different groups. Ex: alkali metals like Li , Na, K were placed with coinage metals Cu, Ag, Au etc.
In Modern periodic table there was no such confusion, the coinage metals have their own position in d-block and alkali metals are placed in s-block elements.
- In Mendeleev’s periodic table, the isotopes were placed in different positions.
In Modern periodic table, the isotopes were assigned same position as they have same atomic number.
- In Mendeleev’s periodic table, elements namely Fe, Co, Ni were placed together in Group VIII.
In Modern periodic table, these elements were placed under d-block elements in different groups.
