It is the process to synthesize alkylhalide from alcohol using ZnCl₂.
The reaction can be written as:
Anhyd ZnCl₂
R --- OH + H---X ========>> RX + H₂O
The reactivity order of in the above reaction is : HI > HBr > HCl > HF
Reactivity order of alcohols = 3⁰ > 2⁰ > 1⁰ > MeOH
2⁰ and 3⁰ alcohols undergo SN₁ mechanism, whereas 1⁰ and MeOH undergo SN₂ mechanism. Concentrated HCl + anhy. ZnCl₂ is known as lucas reagent. In Groove's process, ZnCl₂ is used to weaken C-OH bond. In case of 3⁰ alcohol, ZnCl₂ is not required.
Example = Anhyd ZnCl₂
C₂H₅OH + HCl ===========>> C₂H₅Cl + H₂O

Edla was kind and good natured. She had more convincing power than her father and was able to persuade the peddler to accept the invitation. She was pained by the plight of the peddler and continued to treat him well even after the truth about his identity was revealed. Her behaviour reflects maturity and grace.

Science is the study of the natural world by collecting data through a systematic process called the scientific method. And technology is where we apply science to create devices that can solve problems and do tasks. Technology is literally the application of science. So, it really is impossible to separate the two. Improved technology used for harvesting food, coupled with the technology of improved sanitation, has accelerated the growth of the human population. A larger human population increases the impact on the environment and its resources, many of which are limited and non renewable.
