The maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a known quantity of solvent at a certain temperature is its solubility.

The solubility of a substance depends on the physical and chemical properties of that substance. In addition to this, there are a few conditions which can manipulate it. Temperature, pressure and the type of bond and forces between the particles are few among them.

  • Temperature: By changing the temperature we can increase the soluble property of a solute. Generally, water dissolves solutes at 20° C or 100° C. Sparingly soluble solid or liquid substances can be dissolved completely by increasing the temperature. But in the case of gaseous substance, temperature inversely influences solubility i.e. as the temperature increases gases expand and escapes from their solvent.

  • Forces and Bonds: Like dissolves in like. The type of intermolecular forces and bonds vary among each molecule. The chances of solubility between two unlike substances are more challengeable than the like substances. For example, water is a polar solvent where a polar solute like ethanol is easily soluble.

  • Pressure: Gaseous substances are much influenced than solids and liquids by pressure. When the partial pressure of gas increases, the chance of its solubility is also increased. A soda bottle is an example of where CO2 is bottled under high pressure.

Religious beliefs of the people of Indus Valley Civilisation:

  • Seals form an important source of information about the religious life of the Harappans. Apart from the discovery of fire altar from Kalibangan, no cult objects, temples or places of worship have been found.
  •  From the seals which have been discovered , it has been concluded that religion during the Harappan times bore traces of later Hinduism as images of pashupati, goddess and sacred trees and animals have been discovered.
  • In one of the figures, a plant is shown as growing out of a woman’s body. Historians believe it to be Mother Earth, who was also worshipped in Middle East and Europe.
  • No place of worship such as temples were found in any of the cities of the Indus Valley Civilisation.

Character of Franz
Franz was a very young boy living in Alsace district of France. He had a layman's attitude to studies. At the beginning we find him feeling tempted to skive his school. However, we also come to know his inner strength of character when he overcomes that temptation.
We come to know his patriotism and love for his teacher after he comes to know about the sad news of the new order according to which teaching of French had to be replaced with German. He is shocked to know that that was M. Hamel's last lesson.
We see him getting remorseful for having ignored learning French. He wants to learn all the French in just one period. He is very sad at the departure of his teacher.

Following are the important features of the town planning of the Harappan cities:

  1. The Harappan cities were generally divided into two main parts - the raised area; known as the ‘Citadel’, and the lower town. The Citadel was more in height because the buildings in it were built on mud brick platforms. This area was separated from the lower town by a wall. The Citadel had within its fold important buildings like the Great Bath, the assembly hall, the granary and the workshops. The lower town, on the other hand had residential dwellings.
  2. The main streets of the Harappan cities were built according to the grid pattern. They were built from north to south and from east to west.
  3. The houses built on the corners of streets were rounded in order to allow the passage of carts. The main road in the city of Mohenjo-daro was 10.5 meters wide and 800 meters long.
  4. The house drains relayed all the waste water to the drains built in streets.
  5. The streets were so designed as to cross the main road of the city at right angles, thus dividing the city into square or rectangular blocks.

Understanding the Balance of Payments (BOP)

The balance of payments of a country is a systematic record of all economic transactions between the residents of foreign countries during a given period of time. The transaction in the balance of payment account can be categorized as autonomous transactions and accommodating transactions. These transactions consist of imports and exports of goods, services, and capital, as well as transfer payments, such as foreign aid and remittances. A country's balance of payments and its net international investment position together constitute its international accounts.
