व्यापार को अंग्रेजी में Trade कहते हैं जिसका मतलब खरीद – बिक्री करना है। जैसे फल मंडी से थोक भाव में फल खरीदकर खुदरा मूल्य पर उसे बेचना ही व्यापार है। व्यापार में किसी वस्तु या सेवा का उत्पादन नहीं होता है। बल्कि, पहले से मौजूद सेवा का ही खरीद बिक्री किया जाता है। जिस जगह यह काम किया जाता है वह बाजार कहलाता है। 

बिजनेस (Business) एक अंग्रेजी शब्द है जिसे हिंदी में व्यापार, व्यवसाय, उद्योग, कारोबार, रोजगार, कहते हैं। एक संस्था (कम्पनी, इंटरप्राइज या फर्म) या आर्थिक प्रणाली जो लाभ कमाने के उद्देश्य से वस्तु या सेवा का उत्पादन करता है। इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य ज्यादा से ज्यादा लाभ कमाना है।
