Banking of road means raising the outer edge of the road with respect to inner edge so that the road makes an angle with the horizontal.
When a vehicle moves along a curve, the force of friction provides the necessary centripetal force. But this force has a limit = μmg.When the speed of the vehicle increases beyond this maximum value, the banking of roads is necessary so that the component of normal reaction of the road towards the centre provides the necessary centripetal force.
From the figure, for vertical equilibrium :
Total upwards force = total downwards force
Ncosθ=mg+fsinθmg=Ncosθ−fsinθ...(1)
As the forces Nsinθ,fcosθ provide the necessary centripetal force.
rmv2=Nsinθ+fcosθ...(2)
Thus dividing (2) by (1),
mgrmv2=Ncosθ−fsinθNsinθ+fcosθ
As f=μsN
Thus,
rgv2=cosθ−μssinθsinθ+μscosθ=1−μstanθtanθ+μs=1−tanλtanθtanθ+tanλ=tan(θ+λ)
v=rgtan(θ+λ) where tanλ=μ

Authority : is defined by Max Weber as legitimate power - that is, power considered to be justified or proper, e.g. authority of a teacher, a police officer, etc.
Types of Authority
Rational Legal:
Also known as bureaucratic authority, is when power is legitimized by legally enacted rules and regulations such as governments. Eg. Government officials wield this type of authority in most countries of the world. Bureaucracies are the result of this type of authority.
Charismatic:
Power legitimized by extraordinary personal abilities that inspire devotion and obedience. Examples in this regard can be NT Rama Rao, a matinee idol, who went on to become one of the most powerful Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh.

Administrative Powers of the Election Commission
- The commission has been empowered to function in accordance to the Delimitation Commission Act and define the territorial boundaries of electoral constituencies for different elections.
- It has been given powers to register and deregister any political party or entity.
- It is empowered to enforce the ‘Model Code of Conduct’ for election campaigns and ensures its implementation.
- It is empowered to keep a check on the election expenses of the political parties. This ensures a level playing field for all the political parties irrespective of their size and thus the capacity to spend.
- It has the power to appoint officers as election observers and expenditure observers from different departments of the Civil Services.
Advisory Powers of the EC:
- The Commission is empowered to advise the President of India regarding disqualification of the members of Parliament and the conditions for the same.
- The Commission also advises the Governors with respect to the disqualifications of members of the State Legislatures
- It advises the High Courts and Supreme Court in matters related to post-election disputes between candidates and political parties.
Election Commission Quasi-Judicial Powers
- The Election Commission is empowered to settle disputes regarding recognition granted to political parties and candidates.
- It has the powers to act as a court for matters related to disputes arising out of the allotment of election symbols to political parties and candidates. No two election symbols are the same, even in different regions.
- It must be noted that the elections with respect to the election of Panchayats and Municipalities are carried out under the supervision of the State Election Commission. The State Election Commissions are in turn advised by the ECI and are answerable to it.

There is no hard and fast rule about how many class we choose; but as a working rule the number of classes should lie between 5 and 15. It should be noted that the number of classes will be large if we choose small size class intervals and it will be small if the size of class intervals is large.
As an illustration, suppose the range is 70, and we choose classes of width 2 each. We would require 70 ÷ 2 = 35 classes. However, the number of classes would be 14 if the width of each class was 5.
Size of Class Intervals : We may choose all classes of the same width or of different width. In the case of equal class intervals the size of the class interval is determined as soon as we have decided about the number of classes.
Suppose n is the number of classes and all classes are of width h, then n × h = R.
Knowing the range R and number of classes
n we can abtain h = R/n as the width of class interval. If the range is 70 and we choose 10 classes, the width is 7.
Choice of Class Limits : Suppose x is a continuous variable, such that it can take any value in a given range. In that case, it is possible to choose class limits which are not equal to any of the observed values, For example, height of individuals is a continuous variable, even though, in practice, one can measure height to the nearest of the unit value (in centimetres) as 165, 170, 169, 171 .........; or to the nearest of tenth place of decimals as 165.3, 170.4, 168.9, 170.8, ........ We may specify class intervals as 160.55 165.55,165.55 ....... so that none of the observed values of x is equal to any of the class limits.

We have this equation:
x + y = 1
x + y = 1
y = - x + 1
The slope of the tangent here is -1
And the slope of the line perpendicular to the tangent is 1
The line will pass through the focus y = x + c which will pass through (1,1)
The equation for this would be: y = x
The point of intersection of x + y = 1 and x = y can be obtained by:
y + y = 1
2y = 1
y = 1/2
The vertex for this is : (1/2, 1/2)
The distance between the focus and vertex is √[2x(1/2)²] = √2/2
The equation of parabola would be (y -1/2)² = (2x√2) x (x-1/2) y² + 1/4 - y = 2√2*x - √2
= 4y² - 4y - 8 x √2 *x + 4*√2 + 1 = 0

Boyle’s Law
- Boyle’s law was stated by Robert Boyle.
- It states that at constanttemperature, the pressure of a fixednumber of moles nof gasvaries inversely with its volume.

k1 = Proportionality constant.
- It depends upon the amount and temperature of gas. It also depends upon the units in which p as well v are expressed.
- Let volume V1 is occupied at pressure P1 and temperature T1.
- Again volume V2 is occupied at pressure P2 and temperature T2. Mathematically, as per Boyle’s law:
P1 V1= P2 V2 = Constant
P1/P2 = V2/V1

Though required to act on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, in certain matters the President may exercise discretion within reasonable limits. The following are the discretionary powers of the President of India:
- The President can withhold assent to a Non-Money Bill or send it back for reconsideration.
- There is no time limit within which the President is required to declare his assent or refusal or return the Bill for reconsideration. He can take as much time as he thinks appropriate.
- If no political party or leader has majority support in the Lok Sabha, the President has the freedom to decide who should be appointed as Prime Minister.
- In case the Prime Minister has lost the support of the Lok Sabha, he may, instead of tendering his resignation, ask for the dissolution of the House. The President is bound to act on the advice of the Prime Minister. He can also explore the possibility of forming an alternative government at the centre.

The poem Childhood begins with the poet pondering over ‘when’ was it that he lost his childhood. He wonders if it was the time when he crossed the age of eleven or the time when he started realizing that there is no real existence of heaven and hell as they could not be geographically located in maps.
He wonders if he lost his childhood the moment he realised that adults were not all they pretended to be or when he recognised that the adults, who spoke and preached of love, themselves ‘did not act so lovingly’.
The poet asks if he lost his childhood when he realised that he has a mind of his own or that he can choose his own way, guided by his mind now capable of producing thoughts and opinions that are different from other people.
The poet speculates as to ‘where’ his childhood disappeared. Though he is not aware of the day he lost his childhood, he knows that it has gone to some forgotten place, in an infant’s innocent face.

1. Archaeological : a) Amphitheater, b) Amphorae, c) Colosseum, d) Statues, e) Aqueducts
2. (Literary) Written : (A) Texts – Histories written by Contemporary Historians (B) Documents
3. Aerial Photographs
Documentary sources include mainly inscriptions and papyri. Inscriptions were usually cuton stone, so a large number survive, in both Greek and Latin.
The ‘papyrus’ was a reed-like plant that grew along the banks of the Nile in Egypt and was processed to produce a writing material that was very widely used in everyday life.
Thousands of contracts, accounts, letters and official documents survive ‘on papyrus’ and have been published by scholars who are called ‘papyrologists.
