When sodium carbonate dissolves in water it dissociates into two sodium (Na+) ions and a carbonate (CO3–2) ion;- Na2CO3 (s) —-> 2 Na+(aq) + CO3–2(aq) The carbonate ion is able to remove protons (H+) from water to form bicarbonate ions and hydroxide ions. Hence it is the conjugate base of the bicarbonate ion; CO3–2(aq) + H2O(l) ←-> HCO3-(aq) + OH-(aq) The overall increase in OH- ions due to these reactions results in an increase in the pH of the solution, and cause it to become alkaline.

Orbital Velocity of a satellite is the minimum velocity it has to maintain to continue its circular motion in its orbit. We know for a circular motion to continue, a force called centripetal force is required to work upon the object in circular motion. And this force is a real and acts towards the centre of the circle. As this is a real force it’s to be supplied by a real mechanism or system. A satellite moves in a circular track and the centripetal force acting on it is supplied by the gravitational force acting between the earth and the satellite.

The TCA cycle takes place over eight different steps: Step 1: First the acetyl CoA (a two carbon molecule) joins with oxaloacetate (4 carbon molecule) to form citrate (6 carbon molecule). Step 2: The citrate is then converted to isocitrate (isomer of citrate) Step 3: Isocitrate is then oxidised to alpha-ketoglutarate (a five carbon molecule) which results in the release of carbon dioxide. One NADH molecule is also formed in this step. The enzyme responsible for catalysing this step is isocitrate dehydrogenase. This is a rate limiting step as isocitrate dehydrogenase is an allosterically controlled enzyme. Step 4: Here alpha-ketoglutarate is oxidised to form a 4 carbon molecule which picks up coenzyme A forming succinyl CoA. This conversion also forms a NADH molecule. Step 5: Succinyl CoA is then converted to succinate (4 carbon molecule) and one GTP molecule is produced. Step 6: Succinate is converted into fumarate (4 carbon molecule) and a molecule of FADH₂ is produced. Step 7: Fumarate is converted to malate (another 4 carbon molecule). Step 8: Malate is then converted into oxaloacetate and NADH is also produced here.

Static equilibrium: This is the type of equilibrium in which the resultant of all the forces acting on the body is zero, i.e. the net acceleration of the body is zero, and the velocity of body is also zero. It means that the body is at rest. So if a body is at rest and the net acceleration of it is zero, it means the body is in static equilibrium.

In the poem ‘Childhood’, Markus Natten depicts the reality of childhood innocence gradually transforming into adult rationality, hypocrisy and individuality. The poem begins with the poet wondering when did his childhood go – was it the day he ceased to be eleven; was it the day when he could distinguish between fantasy and reality by realizing that heaven and hell don’t exist since they are not found in geography books; was it the day when he could understand the hypocrisy of adults by realizing that people were not all that they pretended to be; or was it the day when he became conscious of his own growing individuality by realising that he had a mind of his own and that he was capable of producing thoughts and opinions that were different from other people. In the final lines, the poet concludes the speculations in his mind regarding his lost childhood. He now tries to understand where his childhood has gone. Though he is not aware of the day he lost his childhood, he knows that it has gone to some forgotten place, that is, on the face of an infant. The poet believes that though his childhood has become a memory for him, it has become a reality for some other child. Childhood is a cyclic process, where it leaves one person and goes to another.

The poem Childhood begins with the poet pondering over ‘when’ was it that he lost his childhood. He wonders if it was the time when he crossed the age of eleven or the time when he started realizing that there is no real existence of heaven and hell as they could not be geographically located in maps.

He wonders if he lost his childhood the moment he realised that adults were not all they pretended to be or when he recognised that the adults, who spoke and preached of love, themselves ‘did not act so lovingly’.

The poet asks if he lost his childhood when he realised that he has a mind of his own or that he can choose his own way, guided by his mind now capable of producing thoughts and opinions that are different from other people.

The poet speculates as to ‘where’ his childhood disappeared. Though he is not aware of the day he lost his childhood, he knows that it has gone to some forgotten place, in an infant’s innocent face.
