AUSTRALOPITHECUS- word derives from a Latin word 'austral' meaning southern and a Greek word 'pithecus' meaning ape. They have a smaller brain than (less intelligence, less memory, less thinking power). Heavier jaws and larger teeths enabled them to eat raw meat. They are quadrapeds which enabled them to spend life on trees due to flexible limbs and mobile ankle joints. Limited use of hands did not allow them to make stone tools.
HOMO- 'Homo' is a Latin word meaning 'man' including woman. They have a larger brain (more intelligence, more memory, more thinking power). Smaller jaws and inverted teeths enabled only to eat soft meat. These are bipedals which enabled them to walk on their two feet but for a short time. More of use of hands enabled them to make and use stone tools.

Georges Lemaitre (1927) had proposed a model for origin of the universe which became the Big Bang theory. The Big Bang theory explains the origin of universe, with the key idea that the universe is expanding. In the past, the universe was denser and hotter. All of space was contained in a single point, which is considered the inception of the universe. After the initial expansion, the universe freezes that allowed the creation of subatomic particles, consisting of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The majority of atoms formed were hydrogen, along with helium and traces of lithium. Huge clouds of these primal elements later fused through gravity to form stars and galaxies. The massive elements were synthesized either within stars or during supernova. Hence, the Big Bang theory does not explain the initial condition of the universe, but instead it describes the general evolution of the universe.

On the basis of their functions, animal tissues are classified into four major types – epithelial tissues, muscular tissues, connective tissues and nervous tissue.
- Epithelial Tissue:
It is the simplest tissue and protective in nature. The cells of this tissue are tightly packed and they form a continuous sheet. They contain a very little or no intercellular space. It covers most organs and cavities within the body. The skin, the lining of the mouth, the lining of blood vessels, lung alveoli and kidney tubules are all made of epithelial tissue. Anything entering or leaving the body crosses at least one layer of epithelium. As a result, the permeability of the cells of various epithelia plays an important role in regulating the exchange of materials between the body and the external environment and also between different parts of the body. All the epithelium is usually separated from the underlying tissue by an extracellular fibrous basement membrane.
ii. Connective Tissue:
Connective tissue is the binding and supporting tissue of the animal body. Matrix forms the main bulk of this tissue. The cells are loosely spaced and less in number. The matrix may be jelly like, fluid, dense or rigid. The nature of matrix differs in concordance with the function of the particular connective tissue.

Let m is the mass of a body
v is the velocity of body
Therefore of momentum of body p = mv
K.E. = 1/2 mv2
= 1/2m (m2v2)
= 1/2m (p)2
= p2/2m
This is an important relation. It shows the body cannot have K.E. without having linear momentum and vice verse.

Types of Muscle Tissue
- Smooth Muscle: These muscle cells do not have striations or stripes. Hence they are called smooth muscle cells. They are also called involuntary muscles. The cells have a single nucleus and the cells are spindle-shaped.
- Skeletal Muscle: The skeletal muscles have stripes or striations. Hence they are also called the striated muscles. These skeletal muscles are the most common and widely distributed muscle tissue in the body.
- Cardiac Muscle: This is a muscle that is found only in the heart. The rhythmic contractions of this muscle help in the pumping of blood through the blood vessels to various parts of the body. The brain controls this muscle and is an involuntary muscle. The cells of this muscle tissue are branched and cylindrical with a single nucleus and striations present.

Density increases as we go down the group and hardness decreases. Lithium is the lightest alkali metal and is harder than other alkali metals. As the number of shells increase, the attraction between the nucleus and the valence electrons decreases leading to a soft-weak structure that can be even cut by a knife.

Totipotency is the ability of a cell to divide and differentiate into a complete body. In plants, the meristematic cells divide continuously and give rise new cells of the plant body. At maturity, the meristematic cells are fully developed and functional and develop the capacity of totipotency. This implies that when they provided with all the necessary conditions of temperature, humidity and nutrients at any stage of life, they can grow and develop into new plant tissue. These totipotent cells are used in plant tissue culture to generate a new plant from an explant.
