It is a measure of satisfaction an individual gets from the consumption of the commodities. In other words, it is a measurement of usefulness that a consumer obtains from any good. A utility is a measure of how much one enjoys a movie, favourite food, or other goods. It varies with the amount of desire.

Theories and principles developed in basic psychology are put to practical use in applied psychology.
Psychologists work as professionals in many applied fields, such as councellors in schools and colleges, clinical psychologists in hospitals, human relation consultants in industries.
Obviously, basic and applied psychologies are interdependent and they complement each other. Basically, basic psychology is knowledge based on observations, and can be replicated, shared and made public. Applied psychology on the other hand, is the area of psychology which is put to actual use in bettering human behaviour and life in practical situations.

- For an electron, the energies in two orbits may be compared as:
{tex}\frac{E_{1}}{E_{2}}=\left(\frac{n_{2}}{n_{1}}\right)^{2}{/tex}
According to available data: n1 = 1,E1 = - 2.17 {tex}\times{/tex} 10-18 J atom-1, n2 = 5
{tex}\therefore{/tex} {tex}\frac{\left(-2.17 \times 10^{-18} \mathrm{J} \text { atom }^{-1}\right)}{\mathrm{E}_{2}}=\left(\frac{5}{1}\right)^{2}{/tex} = 255
E5 = {tex}\frac{\left(-2.17 \times 10^{-18} \mathrm{J} \text { atom }^{-1}\right)}{25}{/tex}= -8.77 {tex}\times{/tex} 10-20 J - For hydrogen atom rn = 0.529 {tex}\times{/tex} n2 {tex}\stackrel{\circ}{A}{/tex}
r5 = 0.529 {tex}\times{/tex} (5)2 = 13.225 {tex}\stackrel{\circ}{A}{/tex} = 1.3225 nm

An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is defined as a filtration device that is used to remove fine particles like smoke and fine dust from the flowing gas. It is the commonly used device for air pollution control. They are used in industries like steel plants, thermal energy plants.
In the year 1907, chemistry professor Frederick Gardner Cottrell patented the first electrostatic precipitator that was used to collect sulphuric acid mist and lead oxide fumes that were emitted from various acid-making and smelting activities.

Australopithecus
- Australopithecus ramidus: Was 1.2 meters tall and the fossils show the foramen magnum that was large to indicate upright walking. The forelimbs were different from those of the earlier ape-like ancestors. They had teeth like humans.
- Australopithecus afarensis– ‘Lucy’ the famous fossil belonged to this species. They are said to have inhabited the African mainland. And they were shorter than the Australopithecus ramidus and had a small skull with flat noses and no chin. They were able to walk on two legs but the legs were slightly bowed which made their walk slightly ape-like. The bowed legs, fingers, and toes enabled them to climb trees and live there. They had large teeth and jaws.
- Australopithecus africanus– These also inhabited the African mainland. They were bipedal and had a small skull with small brains than Homo erectus but larger than their predecessors. Also, they had large teeth compared to current day humans and were herbivorous. They had large jaws.
- Australopithecus robustus– He was taller than his predecessors but still ape-like. They also weighed more than their ancestors. After the Australopithecus genus came the Homo genus. The first man in the genus was Homo habilis.
