There is no direct election to the post of the Prime Minister. The President appoints the Prime Minister. But the President cannot appoint anyone he likes. He appoints the leader of the majority party or the coalition of parties that commands a majority in the Lok Sabha, as Prime Minister. In case no single party or alliance gets a majority, the President appoints the person most likely to secure a majority support. The Prime Minister does not have a fixed tenure. He continues in power so long as he remains the leader of the majority party or coalition.
Since the Prime Minister is the head of the government, he enjoys wide-ranging powers :
(i) He chairs Cabinet meetings and coordinates the work of different Departments. His decisions are final in case disagreements arise between Departments.
(ii) He exercises general supervision of different ministries. All ministers work under his leadership.
(iii) The Prime Minister distributes and redistributes work to the ministers.
(iv) He also has the power to dismiss ministers. When the Prime Minister quits, the entire ministry quits.
Thus, the Prime Minister is the most powerful person within the Cabinet.

Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990. After attempts made by several countries to persuade Iraq to leave Kuwait failed, the UNO decided to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi occupation by using military force. A huge coalition force of 660,000 troops from 34 countries fought against Iraq and defeated it. This war came to be popularly known as the Gulf War.

Statistics refers to the aggregates or averages that relate to an enquiry or some relationship. Such aggregates facilitate the presentation of data in a simplified manner. Besides presentation, statistics also enable a reader to make comparison among two or more variables. On the contrary to this, statistics also involve some limitations which often lead to the situation of distrust on statistics and its methods. Such limitations evoked ‘Mark Twain’ of U.S. to introduce a phrase called ‘Lies, Damned lies and Statistics’. This phrase was introduced to highlight the shortcomings (limitations) associated with statistics.

Gas vacuoles are aggregates of hollow cylindrical structures called gas vesicles. They are located inside some bacteria. The inflation and deflation of the vesicles provides buoyancy, allowing the bacterium to float at a desired depth in the water.

Joule's law of heating.
The amount of heat produced is proportional to
- electrical resistance when the current in the circuit and the flow of current is constant
- the square of the current flow through the circuit when the electrical resistance and current supply is constant.
- the time of flow when the resistance and current flow is kept constant.
The relationship between heat produced by flowing current through a conductor is given by:
{tex} Q = i^2 R T {/tex}
Where,
Q - the amount of heat
i - electric current
R - amount of electric resistance in the conductor
T - time
