In physics, the dyne is a unit of force specified in the centimetre-gram-second (cgs) system of units, symbol "dyn". One dyne is equal to exactly 10-5 newtons. Further, the dyne can be defined as "the force required to accelerate a mass of one gram at a rate of one centimetre per second squared." A net force of one dyne will accelerate a one-gram mass at the rate of 1 cm/s/s. In the c-g-s system, acceleration due to gravity “g” is 981 cm/s/s and hence, a one-gram of mass would weight 981 dynes.

Classical conditioning is a form of learning whereby a conditioned stimulus (CS) becomes associated with an unrelated unconditioned stimulus (US) in order to produce a behavioral response known as a conditioned response (CR). The conditioned response is the learned response to the previously neutral stimulus. Teachers are able to apply classical conditioning in the class by creating a positive classroom environment to help students overcome anxiety or fear. Pairing an anxiety-provoking situation, such as performing in front of a group, with pleasant surroundings helps the student learn new associations.

Pepsin is the chief digestive enzyme in the stomach that breaks down proteins. We see that chief cells produce pepsinogen (an inactive form of pepsin). Pepsinogen is converted to pepsin when the parietal cells found within the gastric glands secrete hydrochloric acid. Pepsin is a nonspecific protease which is only active at acid pH, and is irreversibly denatured at neutral or alkaline pH as it moves from the stomach into the duodenum. It is therefore essential to make up the pepsin solution from powder in an acidic buffer.

The grandmother had love and compassion even for animals. In the village she fed the street dogs. In the city she took to feeding the sparrows. She would sit in the verandah. She would break the bread into small bits. She used to throw the crumbs to the sparrows. Hundreds of sparrows would gather around her. Some of them perched on her legs and shoulders. She never shoo’d them away. It was the happiest half-hour of the afternoon for her.
