The ability of the atom to lose electrons easily determines whether it is metallic or not. in small atoms, the number of shells are less and thus the free electrons present in the outer shell of the atom is more closer to the nucleus of the atom. due to this, the nuclear charge of the atom is more and thus does not allow the free electrons to flow freely. in the case of a larger atom, the number of shells are more and the free electrons in the last orbit are much farther away from the nucleus of the atom. due to this, the nuclear charge of the atom is less and easily allows the free electrons to flow and thus is more metallic.

  • The atmosphere protects the Earth from the solar radiation. It filters the harmful ultraviolet rays of the Sun.
  • The atmosphere traps the required heat of the Sun and allows the rest to escape into space, thus maintaining a moderate temperature on the Earth. This ensures the existence of various life forms.
  • Due to the friction created in the atmosphere, many meteors and meteorites get burned in the atmosphere, which would have otherwise fallen on to the surface of the Earth.
  • Because of the difference in the temperature of the atmosphere, air gets circulated causing winds and the rains. All forms of life depend on these phenomena.
  • Soil absorbs nitrogen and oxygen which is present in the atmosphere. This helps plants to grow.
  • The water cycle takes place due to the processes of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Water vapour, which is a part of the atmosphere, condenses to form clouds resulting in rainfall.

India has a monsoon type of climate as its climate is influenced by the monsoon winds. The monsoon type of climate is based on distinct season and season of reversal of monsoon winds. This happens due to the differential heating of land and water bodies and pressure situations. When air moves from high pressure area over the southern Indian Ocean, it crosses equator and turns right to the low pressure situation over the Indian sub continent. These winds blow over the warm oceans, pick up moisture from them resulting into rainfall in India.
