Marx and Engels always regarded 'equality' as a political concept and value, and moreover as one suited to promote bourgeois class interests. In place of equality, and based on his historical materialism, Marx advocated the abolition of class society, as it presently exists in the form of capitalism.

1. Draw the graph of each of the following linear equations in two variables:
(i) x+y = 4
Solution:
To draw a graph of linear equations in two variables, let us find out the points to plot.
To find out the points, we have to find the values which x and y can have, satisfying the equation.
Here,
x+y = 4
Substituting the values for x,
When x = 0,
x+y = 4
0+y = 4
y = 4
When x = 4,
x+y = 4
4+y = 4
y = 4–4
y = 0
| x | y |
| 0 | 4 |
| 4 | 0 |
The points to be plotted are (0, 4) and (4,0)

Napoleon was defeated in 1815 by the combined power of Britain, Russia, Prussia and Austria. After the defeat of Napoleon, European governments wanted to follow conservatism. The conservatives believed that established, traditional institutions of state and society should be preserved. They believed in preserving the monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, property and the family. But most of them also wanted to retain the modernization which Napoleon carried out in the spheres of administration. The conservatives believed that modernization would strengthen traditional institutions. It was believed that a modern army, an efficient bureaucracy, a dynamic economy, the abolition of feudalism and serfdom could strengthen the monarchies of Europe.

In an aqueous medium, Cu2+ is more stable than Cu+. This is because although energy is required to remove one electron from Cu+ to Cu2+, high hydration energy of Cu2+ compensates for it. Therefore, Cu+ ion in an aqueous solution is unstable.
