Electronic Voting Machine

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago (2898529)

Nowadays, Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are used to record votes. The machine shows the names of the candidates and the party symbols. Independent candidates too have their own symbols, allotted by Election Commission. Once the polling is over, all the EVMs are sealed and taken to a secure place. Then on the decided date the votes secured by each candidate are counted and the candidate who secures the highest number of votes from a constituency is declared elected.

Meaning A method of depreciation in which the cost of the asset is spread uniformly over the life years by writing off a fixed amount every year. A method of depreciation in which a fixed rate of depreciation is charged on the book value of the asset, over its useful life.
Calculation of depreciation On the original cost On the written down value of the asset.
Annual depreciation charge Remains fixed during the useful life. Reduces every year
Value of asset Completely written off Not completely written off
Amount of depreciation Initially lower Initially higher
Impact of repairs and depreciation on P&L A/c Increasing trend Remains constant
Appropriate for Assets with negligible repairs and maintenance like leases, copyright. Assets whose repairs increase, as they get older like machinery, vehicles etc.

In honey bees, the male is haploid while the female is diploid. Haplodiploidy occurs in some insects like bees, ants and wasps. Male insects are haploid because they develop partheno-genetically from unfertilized eggs. The phenomenon is called arehenotoky. Meiosis does not occur during the formation of sperms. Females grow from fertilized eggs and are hence diploid. Queen bee picks up all the sperms from the drone during nuptial flight and stores the same in her seminal vesicle. Formation of worker bees(diploid females) and drones(haploid males) depends upon the brood cells visited by the queen. While visiting the smaller brood cells, the queen emits sperms from its seminal receptacle after laying the eggs. Males are normally fertile haploids due to development from unfertilized eggs. Occasionally diploid infertile males are also produced from heterozygous females through fertilization.

The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a perfect crystal at a temperature of zero Kelvin (absolute zero) is equal to zero.

Entropy, denoted by ‘S’, is a measure of the disorder/randomness in a closed system. It is directly related to the number of microstates (a fixed microscopic state that can be occupied by a system) accessible by the system, i.e. the greater the number of microstates the closed system can occupy, the greater its entropy. The microstate in which the energy of the system is at its minimum is called the ground state of the system.

At a temperature of zero Kelvin, the following phenomena can be observed in a closed system:

  • The system does not contain any heat.
  • All the atoms and molecules in the system are at their lowest energy points.

Therefore, a system at absolute zero has only one accessible microstate – it’s ground state. As per the third law of thermodynamics, the entropy of such a system is exactly zero.

1) Paper Chromatography:

It is the simplest type of chromatography. In this method, a special type of paper called chromatographic paper or ordinary filter paper is used.

A line is drawn near the bottom edge of the paper. The paper is dipped in a solvent and taken in a beaker so that the line drawn on the paper is above the level of the solvent.

Stationary phase: Filter paper

Mobile phase: Solvent

As the solvent rises on the paper, it takes along with it the drop of the substances.

The component of the drop which is more soluble rises faster and we see various spots on the paper, each indicating a component of the mixture.

The paper is then removed from the solvent and dried.

(2) Crystallisation:

This method is based on the differences in the solubility of solids in a liquid.

The process of formation of crystals from a hot saturated solution caused by cooling is called crystallisation. It is a process in which a solution containing more of the solid component is slowly evaporated.

Pure sugar is obtained from its solution in water by the process of crystallisation.
