The little old house, the roadside stand, existed on the roadside to make a living out of the city money. The owners of the roadside stand expected to attract the rich city men by extending the stand closer to the road. The folk who had put up the roadside stand pleaded to the city dwellers to stop and buy their wares so as to enable them to earn some extra money for a decent living. They wanted that the rich people who passed from there in their cars should stop there and buy some goods from them.

The poet advocates silence so that we can get time for introspection. There is a mad rush in the world today. Confusion, tension and stress prevail everywhere. The poet says us to keep quiet and introspect ourselves so that we can be freed from worldly maladies. The poet wants us to keep quiet because this moment of quietness will give us the time to meditate and introspect upon the kind of turmoil we have created on earth through our ill-actions. Too much activity and rush has only brought misfortunes to mankind, so it is better to be quiet and still.

The foreign policy that India followed after independence was one of non-alignment. The non-alignment movement (NAM) was started in 1961 in the Belgrade summit by Josip Broz Tito, Jawaharlal Nehru, Kwame Nkrumah and Gamal Abdel Nasser. It proposes a formal non-alignment with the major power blocs of the world. The major objectives that Nehru wished to achieve through this strategy are:
• Preserve the sovereignty of the country
• Protect the territorial integrity of the country
• Promote rapid economic development in the country

Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociologists emphasize the careful gathering and analysis of evidence about social life to develop and enrich our understanding of key social processes. The research methods sociologists use are varied. Sociology is defined as the study of human values, relationships, beliefs and society. An example of sociology is what someone is studying when they attend a religious service of a religion that isn't their own. Sociologists today employ three primary theoretical perspectives: the symbolic interactionist perspective, the functionalist perspective, and the conflict perspective. These perspectives offer sociologists theoretical paradigms for explaining how society influences people, and vice versa.

The U.S. believed in Capitalism – a system where ordinary people and businesses control the production of goods and services. The Soviet Union influenced Eastern Europe, while the U.S. influenced Western Europe. The economy of the Soviet Union was based on a system of state ownership of the means of production, collective farming, industrial manufacturing and centralized administrative planning. During this period, the Soviet Union saw rapid industrial growth while other regions were suffering from crisis.
