- मुस्लिम आक्रमणकारी के अत्याचार - भारत में मुस्लिम अत्याचारियों ने ब अत्याचार किया हिन्दुओं का कत्लेआम, मूर्तियों मंदिरों का विध्वंस आदि । इससे निजात पाने के लिए भक्ति आंदोलन को अपनाया गया ।
- धर्म एवं जाति का भय - मुस्लिम आक्रमणकारियों से हिन्दू सम्पद्राय के लोग भयभीत थे उन्हें यह डर था कि उनके धर्म एवं जाति का विनाश हो जायेगा । इसलिए इनकी रक्षा हेतु भक्ति आन्दोलन का आश्रय लिया गया ।
- इस्लाम का प्रभाव - हिन्दुओं ने अनुभव किया कि इस्लाम धर्म में सादगी व सरलाता है । उनमें जातीय भेदभाव नहीं है इसलिए हिन्दुओं ने इन्हें दूर करने के लिए जो मार्ग अपनाया। उसने भक्ति आंदोलन का रूप धारण कर लिया ।
- राजनैतिक सगंठन - मुस्लिम सुल्तानों ने भारतीयों पर भयकंर अत्याचार किया । भारतीय राजाओं को परास्त कर अपनी सत्ता की स्थापना की । इस संघर्ष से मुक्ति पाने के लिए भारतीयों ने अपने राज्य की पुर्नस्थापना की । जिससे हिन्दू धर्म संगठित हो गया और भक्ति मार्ग को बल मिला ।
- रूढ़िवादिता - मध्यकाल के आते आते हिन्दू धर्म रूढिव़ादी हो गया था । यज्ञो, अनुष्ठानों की संकीर्णता से लोग ऊब गये थे । वे सरल धर्म चाहते थे । जिससे भक्ति मार्ग का उदय हुआ।
- पारस्परिक मतभेद - हिन्दू धर्म में भेदभाव बहुत था । निम्न वर्गो की दशा बहुत दयनीय थी । भेदभाव को समाप्त करने के लिए भक्ति मार्ग को अपनाया गया ।
- हिन्दुओं की निराशा - मुसलमानों के अत्याचाार से हिन्दुओं की निराशा बढ़ चुकी थी। वे बहुत हताश हो गये थे र्इश्वर के अतिरिक्त उन्हें कोर्इ नहीं दिखार्इ दे रहा था जिसके कारण वे भक्ति मार्ग को अपनाया ।
