M. Hamel
M. Hamel was
a true French man. Teaching at Alsace for forty years, he had become a part of
its people. He was an honest teacher. He did not blame his
students alone for poor
learning. He also held himself responsible for the same. He was very patriotic
as he appealed to his countrymen to hold fast to their mother
tongue to be free from the Prussians. According to him the French language was the most beautiful, the clearest and the most logical language in the world. He urged on his countrymen to guard it and never forget it. He was deeply attached to the school
and all his students. However, he was very brave and strong. He was really regretful
for not making sincere efforts to teach French to his countrymen. At the end,
he became so emotional that he could not speak.
Franz
Franz was a very young boy living in Alsace district of France. He had a layman's attitude to studies. At the beginning we find him feeling tempted to skive his school. However, we also come to know his inner strength of character when he overcomes that temptation.
We come to know his patriotism and love for his teacher after he comes to know about the sad news of the new order according to which teaching of French had to be replaced with German. He is shocked to know that that was M. Hamel's last lesson.
We see him getting remorseful for having ignored learning French. He wants to learn all the French in just one period. He is very sad at the departure of his teacher.

Bank rate is applicable to long term lending by the central bank to commercial banks and is governed by the long-term interest rate.
Repo rate is the rate of interest at which central bank lends money to commercial banks for short period. Increase in Repo rate reduces the money supply in the economy and vice versa.
Reverse Repo rate is the rate at which central bank of a country borrows money from commercial banks. It is fixed by the central bank. Increase in Reverse Repo rate reduces the money supply in the economy. Decrease in this rate will increase the money supply in the economy.

Deficient demand and excess demand can be distinguished from each other in the following manner:
- Deficient demand is a situation, which occurs due to excess of aggregate supply of output over the aggregate demand for output at the level of full employment. On the other hand, excess demand is a situation, which occurs due to the excess of aggregate demand for output over the supply of output at the level of full employment.
- Deficient demand generates a deflationary gap. But excess demand generates an inflationary gap.
- Deficient demand leads to a fall in output, employment, and price level. But excess demand leads only to an increase in the price level. Between the two – excess demand and deficient demand, the latter is worse.
