Mining processes produce an excess of waste materials known as tailings. ... Tailings have great potential to damage the environment by releasing toxic metals by acid mine drainage or by damaging aquatic wildlife; these both require constant monitoring and treatment of water passing through the dam.

Global warming is a gradual increase in the earth’s temperature generally due to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants.

  • Deforestation: Plants are the main source of oxygen. They take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen thereby maintaining environmental balance. The forests are being depleted for many domestic and commercial purposes. This has led to an environmental imbalance, thereby giving rise to global warming.
  • Use of Vehicles:The use of vehicles even for a very short distance results into various gaseous emissions. Vehicles burn fossil fuels which emit a large amount of carbon dioxide and other toxins into the atmosphere resulting in a temperature increase.
  • Chlorofluorocarbon:With the excessive use of air conditioners and refrigerators, humans have been adding CFCs into the environment which affects the atmospheric ozone layer. The ozone layer protects the earth surface from the harmful ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun
  • Agriculture:Various farming activities produce carbon dioxide and methane gas. These add to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and increase the temperature of the earth.
  • Overpopulation:Increase in population means more people breathing. This leads to an increase in the level of carbon dioxide, the primary gas causing global warming, in the atmosphere.

  1. Population growth causes a disproportionate negative impact on the environment.
  2. Problems of population size and growth, resource utilization and depletion, and environmental deterioration must be considered jointly and on a global basis. In this context, population control is obviously not a panacea—it is necessary but not alone sufficient to see us through the crisis.
  3. Population density is a poor measure of population pressure, and redistributing population would be a dangerous pseudosolution to the population problem.
  4. “Environment” must be broadly construed to include such things as the physical environment of urban ghettos, the human behavioral environment, and the epidemiological environment.

The colonies in the Caribbean were important suppliers of tobacco, indigo, sugar and coffee. However as the Europeans were unwilling to work in distant and unfamiliar lands, it led to a shortage of labor in plantations. This shortage was met by triangular slave trade between Europe, Africa and America.
2. The slave trade began in the 17th century when French merchants sailed to the African coasts, where they bought slaves from the local chieftains. These slaves were then branded, shackled and then packed tightly into ships for a 3 month long voyage across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
3. There they were sold to the plantation workers who used them to meet the growing demands in European markets for sugar, coffee and indigo.
4. Slavery was abolished in France by the Constitution of 1791 but it was not extended to all French subjects including those in the colonies.
5. It was during the Jacobins reign that the Convention abolished slavery in the French colonies in 1794. Napoleon re introduced slavery in France. Slavery was finally abolished in French colonies in 1848.

Soil broadly consists of four layers. These are:

  1. Top Soil: This is the outer thin layer. It contains fine particles and organic matter. It is on this layer that plants and crops grow.
  2. Sub soil: This layer lies below the top soil. It contains materials which are removed from the top soil.
  3. Weathered Rock: This layer lies below the sub soil. It is in first stage of soil formation.
  4. Bed Rock or the Parent Rock: This is un-weathered rock. It determines the nature of the soil.

To construct a 75-degree angle, we need to produce an angle bisector in between 90-degree angle. Let’s learn the steps to construct a 75-degree angle.

  • Step 1: Draw a line segment with endpoint O and A.
  • Step 2: Draw an arc with O as centre cutting the line segment OA at point B with a compass.
  • Step 3: Keeping the radius same, Draw an arc with B as centre cutting the arc at C.
  • Step 4: Keeping the radius same, and C as the center, draw an arc intersecting the arc drawn in the previous step at D.
  • Step 5: With any radius, Draw two arcs with C and D as a center. Intersect these two arcs at E.
  • Step 6: Join OE. angle EOA is the angle with measurement of 90 degrees.
  • Step 7: Now the line OE intersect the arc at the point F.
  • Step 8: Taking F and C as a center, make an arc with a radius of more than half of the measurement FC. The arc intersects at point H.
  • Step 9: Join the point H and O. Angle HOA is the angle obtained of measurement 75 degrees.
  • Step 10: Angle HOA is the desired angle.

Weighted Mean is an average computed by giving different weights to some of the individual values. If all the weights are equal, then the weighted mean is the same as the arithmetic mean.

It represents the average of a given data. The Weighted mean is similar to the arithmetic mean or sample mean. The Weighted mean is calculated when data is given in a different way compared to the arithmetic mean or sample mean.

Weighted means generally behave in a similar approach to arithmetic means, they do have a few counter-instinctive properties. Data elements with a high weight contribute more to the weighted mean than the elements with a low weight.

The weights cannot be negative. Some may be zero, but not all of them; since division by zero is not allowed. Weighted means play an important role in the systems of data analysis, weighted differential and integral calculus.

Teresa Kamei 5 years, 3 months ago (9408161)

A weighted mean its a kind of average. Instead of each data point contributing equally to the final mean, some data point contribute more "weight" than others. If all the weight are equal, than the weighted mean equals to arithmetic mean.
