Chubukov is Natalya father and lomov neighbour he is a landlord he is very clever and shrewd he tells Lomov that he is happy to know about his decision to marry natalya in fact he has no love for lomov he simply wants to be free from his responsibilities as father Chubukov is a money minded person he thinks that lomov has came to borrow money he makes up his mind not to lend his money otherwise chubukov tells lomov that he loves lomov like his own son chubukov loses his Temper soon He tells lomov not to speak to him in Harsh tone he wants lomov to be Respectful to him even while quarrelling with him He himself uses many harsh words for lomov he represents a typical class of land Lords who take pride in small matters

Natalya is a 26 years old unmarried girl she is the daughter of a landlord, chubukov She start quarrelling with lomov when he was says that the oxen meadows belong to him he is an easily irritable and quarrelsome girl she comes to conclusions without thinking much when she come to know that lomov came to propose to her she feels sorry she wants to her father to go and bring the lomov back as soon as Lomov says that his dog is the best dog she again starts quarrelling with him she quarrels over trifles and fails to Pay attention to the important matter of her marriage at last she is ready to marry lomov it is quite funny and strange that she still uses harsh words for him she seems to lack a sense of right or wrong

Lomov is a land owner he is chubukov's neighbour he wants to Marry Natalya he goes to her house with the proposal to marry her but he is nervous and excited he lacks control over his feelings and emotions he does not know how to make a marriage proposal Lomov has great love for his pet dog guess he is not ready to accept that his dog in his inferior to squeezer lomov seems to be a nervous and simple looking person but he is quite practical he wants to marry Natalya because she is well educated and a good housekeeper she is not bad looking lomov's considerations are pragmatic and practical he is not ready to leave his claim on the land he argues with great responsibility to claim the right to the meadows
