My cat was back and so was I" means that he had found his cat and he himself had a new outlook on life. He got his cat back after he had lost all hope of finding it. He said that he was also back because he had a feeling of gratitude for his life now. Earlier he had a feeling of insecurity and fear regarding his new school whereas after the fire, the generosity of his friends and the return of his cat changed his outlook on life as he started participating in life and he felt that he was 'back‘.

ADH- Anti-diuretic Hormone
ADH, also known as arginine vasopressin, is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. It is made up of special nerve cells found at the base of the hypothalamus. The hormone is transported to the pituitary gland via axons, where it is released into the bloodstream. It regulates and balances the amount of water in the blood.
Functions Of ADH
- It acts on the kidneys and the blood vessels and functions to control the blood pressure. Higher concentrations of ADH constrict the blood vessels which increases the blood pressure.
- It allows the water in the urine to be taken back in a specific area in the kidney and thus reduces the amount of water excreted through the urine thereby conserving the volume of the fluid in the body.
- It is mainly responsible for homeostasis.

DNA is a group of molecules that is responsible for carrying and transmitting the hereditary materials or the genetic instructions from parents to offsprings.
This is also true for viruses as most of these entities have either RNA or DNA as their genetic material. For instance, some viruses may have RNA as their genetic material, while others have DNA as the genetic material. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) contains RNA, which is then converted into DNA after attaching itself to the host cell.

Fleming's right hand rule states to hold the forefinger, middle finger and thumb of right hand mutually perpendicular to each other so that the forefinger points in the direction of external magnetic field and thumb points in the direction of motion of conductor. Now the direction in which the middle finger is pointed gives the direction of induced current in the conductor. Fleming's right hand rule is used to determined the direction of induced current in the conductor when a conductor moves in a region of magnetic field.

Ex 8.1 Class 8 Maths Question 1.
Find the ratio of the following:
(a) speed of a cycle 15 km per hour to the speed of scooter 30 km per hour.
(b) 5 m to 10 km
(c) 50 paise to ₹ 5
Solution:
(a) Speed of cycle : Speed of Scooter = 15 km per hour : 30 km per hour
= 1530 = 12
Hence, the ratio = 1 : 2
(b) 5 m to 10 km
= 5 m : 10 × 1000 m [∵ 1 km = 1000 m]
= 5 m : 10000 m
= 1 : 2000
Hence, the ratio = 1 : 2000
(c) 50 paise to ₹ 5
= 50 paise : 5 × 100 paise
= 50 paise : 500 paise
ratio = 1 : 10

72% of 25 students are good in mathematics. How many are not good in mathematics?
Solution:
Number of students who are good in mathematics = 72% of 25

Number of students who are not good in mathematics = 25 – 18 = 7

DNA acts as the repository of genetic information. The mRNA serves as a link between the DNA and polypeptide chain. It is called one-way flow of information or central dogma. This concept was proposed by Crick in 1958. The flow of information can be represented as follows:
In viruses, DNA is synthesised on RNA template with the help of enzyme RNA dependent DNA polymerase (reverse transcriptase). mRNA transcribed from the DNA participates in protein synthesis. It is called the central dogma reverse. The process of DNA synthesis on RNA is called reverse transcription or inverse flow of information. This concept was proposed by D. Baltimore in 1970. The flow of information can be represented as follows:

The perimeter of a rectangle is defined as the sum of all the sides of a rectangle. For any polygon, the perimeter formulas are the total distance around its sides. In case of a rectangle, the opposite sides of a rectangle are equal and so, the perimeter will be twice the width of the rectangle plus twice the length of the rectangle and it is denoted by the alphabet “p”. Let us derive the formula for its perimeter and area.
Suppose a rectangle has length and width as b and a, respectively.
From the definition of the perimeter we know, the perimeter of a rectangle, P = 2 ( a+b) units
where
“a” is the length of the rectangle
“b” is the breadth of the rectangle

As we move above the Earth’s surface, the density of air goes on decreasing. There is a gradual increase in the refractive index from the atmosphere to the Earth’s surface. Thus, the refractive index of the atmosphere is different at different altitudes.
