Measurement of Unemployment:
- Usual Status (UPS):
The Usual Status approach to measuring unemployment uses a reference period of 365 days i.e. one year preceding the date of the survey of NSSO for measuring unemployment.
The Usual Status approach of measuring unemployment also looks at the principal activity and subsidiary activity status of the worker. - Current Weekly Status:
The Current Weekly Status (CWS) approach to measuring unemployment uses seven days preceding the date of survey as the reference period.
A person is considered to be employed if he or she pursues any one or more of the gainful activities for at least one-hour on any day of the reference week. On the other hand, if a person does not pursue any gainful activity, but has been seeking or available for work, the person is considered as unemployed. - Current Daily Status (CDS): The current daily status approach to measuring unemployment seeks to ascertain the activity status of an individual for each day of the reference week. It reports time disposition of an individual on each day of the reference week. This means that in addition to recording the activity being pursued, time intensity is also recorded in quantitative terms for each day of the reference week.

वर्ण-संकर- चार मूल वर्णों के मध्य तथा प्रत्येक वर्ण में ही किए गए अनुलोम तथा प्रतिलोम विवाहों के परिणामस्वरूप अनेक संकर जातियाँ बन गई। मनुस्मृति के अनुसार अगर पिता, माता से उच्च वर्ण का है, तो पुत्र की वर्ण स्थिति निम्नतर होगी। सूत्र तथा स्मृतिकाल में विभिन्न जातियों तथा उपजातियों के सदस्यों की असवर्ण स्त्रियों से उत्पन्न हुई संतान न तो पिता की संतान होती थी न माता की। वह एक अलग वर्ण की हो जाती थी। सवर्ण विवाह पर प्रतिबंध न होने पर बहुत सी संकर जातियाँ बन चुकी थीं। वर्ण-संकर व्यवस्था से जुड़े कुछ प्रमुख तथ्य निम्नलिखित हैं-
- शुद्र अगर किसी द्विजातीय स्त्री से विवाह करता था, तो उत्पन्न संतान 'चांडाल' कहलाती थी।
- क्षत्रिय की ब्राह्मण स्त्री से उत्पन्न पुत्र को 'सूत' कहा जाता था।
- वैश्य की ब्राह्मण स्त्री से उत्पन्न पुत्र को 'वैदेहक' कहा जाता था।
- वैश्य पुरुष और क्षत्रिय स्त्री से उत्पन्न पुत्र 'मागध' कहा जाता था।
- शूद्र से क्षत्रिय स्त्री से उत्पन्न पुत्र 'निषाद' होता था।
- शूद्र से वैश्य स्त्री से उत्पन्न पुत्र 'आयोगव' होता था और बढ़ई का काम करता था।
- चाण्डाल की निषादी से उत्पन्न संतति 'पाण्डसोपाक' होती थी और बँसफोर का काम करती थी।
