If you’re not satisfied with your CBSE board exam results in 2025 and you are thinking about applying for rechecking, mark verification, or re-evaluation, make sure you’re aware of the latest changes in CBSE rechecking rules. This year, CBSE has introduced a major shift in the rechecking process. It’s now completely reversed from how it worked before.

Previous Rechecking Rules

Here are the steps you would need to follow for the CBSE class 10 and class 12 board exam rechecking:

  1. Verification of marks
  2. Obtaining a Photocopy of the evaluated answer book
  3. Revaluation

Verification of Marks

This is the first step. It involves re-checking the totalling of marks on the first page of your answer booklet. Most times, the answers are evaluated correctly, but errors can happen in adding up the marks or transferring them to the front page. This step ensures that all marks have been correctly totalled and recorded.

Photocopy of Evaluated Answer Book

If you’re still not satisfied after the verification and believe there might be an issue with how your answers were marked, you can request a photocopy of your evaluated answer sheet. This lets you review your own paper, either by yourself or with a teacher, to check if any answers were not evaluated properly.

Re-evaluation

If you find genuine mistakes in how your answers were marked after reviewing the photocopy, you can move to the final step—re-evaluation. In this step, CBSE will get your answer book re-checked by a different examiner. If any discrepancies are found, your marks will be updated accordingly.

New Rechecking Rules 2025

According to the latest CBSE circular, the rechecking process has been revised. Now, students can directly request a photocopy of their evaluated answer book as the first step. After reviewing it, they can choose to apply for verification of marks, revaluation of specific answers, or both—depending on what they find.

Step 1: Obtain a photocopy of the evaluated answer book
Step 2: Apply for verification of marks or revaluation, or both

The rechecking process has now been simplified into just two steps. First, a student can request a photocopy of their evaluated answer book. After reviewing it, they can decide whether to apply for re-totalling (verification of marks) or go for a complete re-evaluation of the answer sheet.

Why is New Process better?

With the introduction of this new system, students now have the opportunity to view their evaluated answer books before applying for rechecking. This added transparency helps students better understand the marks awarded, any examiner comments, and spot potential errors.

After obtaining the photocopy of their evaluated answer book—the first step in the process—students can choose to apply for either Verification of Marks, which includes checking for calculation errors or overlooked answers, or Re-evaluation, which involves a fresh assessment of specific answers. Students may opt for either of the two options, or both, based on what they observe in the photocopy.

Detailed guidelines for applying for the Photocopy of the Evaluated Answer Book, Verification of Marks, and Re-evaluation of Specific Questions for the 2025 Class X and XII exams will be released once the results are officially declared.
