In the chapter A House Is not A Home .. we come to know that one afternoon the author was writing his homework while his cat was sitting and pawing comfortably .. the weather was cold outside , hence his mother kept the firewood to keep the house warm .. Suddenly after a certain time , there was smoke in the house .. the author ran out of the house , with his .other and his cat had ran a mile away from the house..he ran towards his neighbour to call the fire brigade for help and the houses went up in flames .. during that time his mum went inside the house to collect the documents and pictures of his dad who wasn't alive .. It was the authors dad's last memories they had .. it was quite risky but his mom came out safely..Soon the fire brigade came and the extinguished the fire but the house was in ashes .. The teenager/ author was so surprised, shocked and devasted as he had lost everything including his new books , bags, shoes , old friends, old school , teachers and everything and now the house too .. He was in a state of depression .. They shifted to the autorss grandfather's house for the mean time .. One more thing that made the author worry was his cat which went missing and never came back .. he was in tears as he had a strong and emotional bond with his beloved cat .. he had picked the cat when he was quite young ..someone had abandoned the cat and the author saw it , took it to his home and since then it has been with him .. he has nourished it , played with it and has feeling for it ..
