  • It consists of cells which form membranes.
  • This membrane covers the body surface and the glands.
  • The covering or protective tissues in the animal body are epithelial tissues.
  • Epithelium covers most organs and cavities within the body.
  • It also forms a barrier to keep different body systems separate.
  • The skin, the lining of the mouth, the lining of blood vessels, lung alveoli and kidney tubules are all made of epithelial tissue.
  • The cells are tightly packed and form a continuous sheet.
  • They have only a small amount of cementing material between them and almost no intercellular spaces.
  • These are divided into four types:-

SIMPLE

  • The cells are extremely thin and flat and form a delicate lining.
  • The lining of oesophagus and the mouth are covered with squamous epithelium.

STRATIFIED

  • The cells are arranged in many layers to prevent wear and tear.
  • Since they are arranged in a pattern of layers, the epithelium is called stratified squamous
  • The skin, which protects the body, is made of squamous epithelium.

COLUMNAR

  • The columnar (meaning ‘pillar-like’) epithelium facilitates movement across the epithelial barrier.
  • It is present where absorption and secretion occur, as in the inner lining of the intestine, tall epithelial cells are present.
  • In the respiratory tract, the columnar epithelial tissue also has cilia, which are hair-like projections on the outer surfaces of epithelial cells.
  • These cilia can move, and their movement pushes the mucus forward to clear it. This type of epithelium is thus ciliated columnar epithelium.

CUBOIDAL

  • Cuboidal epithelium (with cube-shaped cells) forms the lining of kidney tubules and ducts of salivary glands, where it provides mechanical support.
  • Epithelial cells often acquire additional specialisation as gland cells, which can secrete substances at the epithelial surface.
  • Sometimes a portion of the epithelial tissue folds inward and a multicellular gland is formed.
  • This is glandular epithelium.

Franz was a student in one of the schools in the districts of Alsace. Having a poor family set up, the boy was often asked to work in some mill for earning some money. But the family could not pay due attention towards his education, so the boy loved outside environment and wanted to enjoy it. In the school too, he often loved to work in the garden. He became fond of shirking from work and used to put off his learning as well as home task. But he was much scared of his teacher M. Hamel.

In addition to this, the boy had an acute sense of understanding, feeling, recognition and respect. Entering the school, he sensed unusualness and calmness there. He was much surprised at this and was rather troubled to know that his teacher was leaving them because of an order from Berlin had banned the teaching of French. During the writing period, he noticed sad expressions over the face of M. Hamel. When the teacher taught a lesson in grammar, it left an indelible impression on the boy. He felt that the teacher was going to pour everything in their minds. Then the teacher wrote on the blackboard ‘Long Live France’. The boy was deeply moved and he recognised his teacher for his worth. Thus Franz had all the senses of head and heart.

The psychiatrist of Charley called him having a waking-dream-wish-fulfilment. Since the Third Level was all his fantasy, his wife Louisa too asked him not to look for the Third Level anymore. The narrator took to stamp collecting. One day while looking through his worthy collection, Charley noticed a “first day cover” which he believed not to have seen before. This cover was addressed to his grandfather and mailed to him at his home in Galesburg. It was on July 18, 1894. Definitely his grandfather must have put it in his collection and the same must be lying there since long. Since it was a “first day cover”, consequently, it was not opened.

There was a blank paper in it. By chance Charley opened it. On opening it was found that it had a letter from Sam. He had reached Galesburg and was living very happily. He had found the place very charming, peaceful and serene. It was also written in the letter that Charley should come to Galesburg and look for the Third Level. In other words, the letter appeared to be Charley's imagination like his escape into the Third Level. The psychiatrist too had warned him that his stamp collection was a mode of escaping into the past.

Franz entered the school. He noticed many unusual things in the school. It was all so still, calm and quiet like Sunday morning. The whole school looked strange and solemn. There was no hustle and bustle. The rapping of the teacher’s ruler on the table was not heard. The voice of the students repeating the lessons and the opening and closing of the desks was not heard. It was quite unusual and surprising.

 The international transport pictogram for corrosives. EtymologyEdit The word corrosive is derived from the Latin verb corrodere, which means to gnaw, indicating how these substances seem to "gnaw" their way through flesh or other materials. Chemical termsEdit The word corrosive refers to any chemical that will dissolve the structure of an object. They can be acids, oxidizers, or bases. When they come in contact with a surface, the surface deteriorates. The deterioration can happen in minutes, e.g. concentrated hydrochloric acid spilled on skin; or slowly over days or years, e.g. the rusting of iron in a bridge. Sometimes the word caustic is used as a synonym for corrosive when referring to the effect on living tissues. At low concentrations, a corrosive substance is called an irritant, and its effect on living tissue is called irritation. At high concentrations, a corrosive substance causes a chemical burn, a distinct type of tissue damage. Corrosives are different from poisons in that corrosives are immediately dangerous to the tissues they contact, whereas poisons may have systemic toxic effects that require time to become evident. Colloquially, corrosives may be called poisons but the concepts are technically distinct. However, there is nothing which precludes a corrosive from being a poison; there are substances that are both corrosives and poisons. Corrosion of non-living surfaces such as metals is a distinct process. For example, a water-air electrochemical cell corrodes iron to rust, corrodes copper to patina, and corrodes copper, silver, and other metals to tarnish. In the international system of symbolic chemical labels, both rapid corrosion of metals and chemical corrosion of skin qualify for the corrosive symbol. Radius of circle = 50/2 = 25 cm

perpendicular distance = 24 cm

Therefore, By Pythagoras theorem:

Hypotenuse² = Base² + Perpendicular ²

25² = Base² + 24²

Base² = 625 - 576

Base² = 49

Base = 7

Chord = 2 × Base

Chord = 2 × 7

Answer: 14 cm

The government by selling its stake in public sector or joint sector enterprise is termed as disinvestment. This leads to privatisation. But the government should unload shares of only inefficient enterprises and the money received should be utilised for productive investment.

The nucleus is a membrane-enclosed organelle, found in most eukaryotic cells, which stores the genetic material (DNA). The nucleus is surrounded by a double lipid bilayer, the nuclear envelope, which is embedded with nuclear pores. The nucleolus is inside the nucleus, and is where ribosomes are made.

Golgi apparatus, Mitochondria, Ribosomes, Nucleus are parts of Eukaryotic Cells.
Functions

  • They produce energy (ATP) and therefore are called the 'powerhouse of the cell'.
  • Helps in regulating cell metabolism.
  • Mitochondria possess their own DNA, RNA and components required for protein synthesis

Once there lived an old farmer in a village. He had four sons. They always quarreled among themselves. The father often advised them to mend their ways. But they did not listen to him.

One day, he fell seriously ill. He was on death bed. He called his sons to his bed-side. He wanted to teach them a lesson before his death.He asked them to bring a bundle of sticks. The bundle was brought. He asked them to break the bundle. Each of them tried his best. But no one could break the bundle.

The wise father now untied the bundle. He asked them to break one stick each. Now each of them broke his stick easily. The father said to them, “If you are united, nobody can harm you. If you quarrel, you will suffer.” These words worked magic. They promised to live in peace.
