Static friction is a force that keeps object at rest. It must be overcome to start moving the object.
Factors on which the static firctional force depends:
1) Force exerted by the body on the surface.
2) Contact surface if they were rough, then friction between their surface is more and vice versa.

(a) 730 + 998 = 700 + 1000 = 1700
(b) 578 x 161
Rounding off 578 to the nearest hundreds, we get 600
And, rounding off 161 to the nearest hundreds, we get 200
Therefore, 600 x 200 = 1,20,000
It means that estimate of 578 x 161 is equal to 1,20,000 according to the general rule.

Syndicate was a group of powerful and influential leaders from within the Congress:
- Syndicate was led by K. Kamraj, former chief minister of Tamilnadu and the then president of Congress party. It also includes some powerful leaders like S.K. Patil, S. Nijalingappa, N. Sanjeeva Reddy and Atulya Ghosh.
- In the sixties, Syndicate played a decisive role by installing both Lai Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi as a Prime Minister.
- Syndicate played decisive say in Indira Gandhi’s first council of Ministers and formation and implementation of policies.
- After a split, two groups in Congress were created i.e. Congress (O), led by Syndicate and Congress (R), led by Indira Gandhi.
- Congress (R), won popularity after 1971 and Syndicate lost power and prestige.

- Some substances float on water while others sink right to the bottom.
- Objects which are heavier than water sink whereas objects which are lighter than water float on water.
- When leaves from a tree fall on the pond water they float. A paper boat, thin twigs etc are light and they float on water.

Mechanism of monsoon
- Due to Sun, there is differential heating of land and water.
- The Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ shifts over Ganga plains during the Summer.
- The high-pressure area, east of Madagascar affects the monsoon.
- Due to strong vertical air currents and formation of high pressure over Tibetan plateau, the plateau gets intensely heated during the summer.
- Southern Oscillation affects the monsoon.
