The poetess Shirley Toulson while writing this poem travels down her memory lane. She becomes nostalgic. She is reminded of a time when her mother was young and she was a child. She remembers how her mother used to look at one of her old photograph, where she posed in the beach with her cousins Betty and Dolly with a smile. But then she realizes that her mother died twelve years ago and is no more with her. She gets upset by this. The photograph was like a ruthless fact for her as it invigorated the sense of loss in her. But when she accepts the truth of human life the photograph provides a sweet memory of her mother.

Given, Perimeter of rhombus =40cm

All sides of rhombus are equal, hence, side, a= 40/4 =10cm
Diagonal of rhombus, p=12cm

Area of rhombus =1/2 p √4a2−p2
Area of rhombus =1/2 (12)√4(10)2−122

Area of rhombus =96 cm2
Total area of both the sides = 2 × 96=192cm2
Cost of painting 1cm2 =  Rs. 5
Cost of painting 192cm= 192 × 5= Rs. 960

The total length of 8 canvases is 1243 cm

So, length of the canvases = 1243  ÷ 8= 155.375 cm

Hence length of the canvases in millimetres= 155.375 × 10 = 1553.75 mm

The definition of romanticism is a state of being romantic or affectionate in a sentimental way, or an 18th century movement in the arts and literature that emphasized nature, imagination, emotion and the individual ?

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 2 months ago (6237)

Romanticism was characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as glorification of all the past and nature, preferring the medieval rather than the classical. It also promoted the individual imagination as a critical authority allowed of freedom from classical notions of form in art.

Five elements of romanticism
Belief in the individual and common man.
Love of (reverence for) nature.
Interest in the bizarre, supernatural and gothic.
Interest in the past.
Looks at the world with more than reasonable optimism (rose-colored glasses).
Faith in inner experience and the power of the imagination.

Mongol empire, empire founded by Genghis Khan in 1206. Originating from the Mongol heartland in the Steppe of central Asia, by the late 13th century it spanned from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Danube River and the shores of the Persian Gulf in the west. At its peak, it covered some 9 million square miles (23 million square km) of territory, making it the largest contiguous land empire in world history. In 1227 the Mongol dominions stretched over the vast regions between the Caspian and China seas, bordering in the north on the sparsely populated forest belt of Siberia and in the south on the Pamirs, Tibet, and the central plains of China. This empire contained a multitude of different peoples, religions, and civilizations, and it is only natural to seek the motivating force behind this unparalleled expansion. Certainly the traditional antagonism between pastoral, nomadic steppe-dwellers and settled agricultural civilizations has to be taken into account. Raids by nomads from the steppe had always occurred from time to time wherever powerful nomadic tribes lived in the proximity of settled populations, but they had not usually taken on the dimensions of a bid for world hegemony or domination as in the case of Genghis Khan’s invasions.

Processing fibres into wool:

The wool which is used for knitting sweaters and weaving shawls involves following steps:

  1. Shearing: The process of removing hair from the body of a sheep in the form of fleece is called shearing. Usually the hairs are removed during the hot weather which enables sheep to survive without their protective coat of hair. The hair provides woolen fibres and than are processed to obtain woolen yarn. Shearing does not hurt the sheep as the upper most layer of skin is dead.

  1. Scouring: The process of washing the fleece that removes dust, dirt, dried sweat and grease is called scouring. This process makes the fleece of sheep clean. The scoured fleece is then dried.

  1. Sorting:  The process of separating the fleece of a sheep into sections according to the quality of woolen fibres is called sorting.  The hairy skin is sent to a factory where hair of different textures is sorted. The same quality wool obtained from the fleece of large number of sheep is than mixed together.
  2. Dyeing: The hair of sheep is white, brown, or black in color. The white woolen fibres obtained by sorting can be dyed in different colors.

  1. Combing: This is a process of preparing woolen fibres for spinning the yarn. It is done by using combs having metal teeth.
  2. Spinning: The long woolen fibres are spun into thick yarn called wool.

The magnetic field lines of a solenoid are same as in a bar magnet but in a solenoid field density can be varied by changing no of turns and current density but it can't be done with a bar magnet. Also swaping of poles can be done on solenoid by changing the direction of current but can't be done via a bar magnet. Thats all I know about it.

As the sediments subduct, the water rises into the overlying mantle material and lowers its melting point. Melting in the mantle above the subducting plate leads to volcanoes within an island or continental arc. ... Large earthquakes are extremely common along convergent plate boundaries

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 2 months ago (6237)

When the plates move they collide or spread apart allowing the very hot molten material called lava to escape from the mantle. When collisions occur they produce mountains, deep underwater valleys called trenches, and volcanoes. The Earth is producing "new" crust where two plates are diverging or spreading apart. When two plate move towards each other they converge or come together. The collision between two plates that are moving towards each other is called a convergent boundary. The collision results in large damaging earthquakes. When two continental plates converge the result is the formation of large folded mountains.

Rocks that formed from magma are called igneous rocks. Igneous comes from the Latin word ignis which means "fire". Rocks that are formed from heat and pressure are called metamorphic rocks. Rocks that are formed from the cementing together of small pieces of rocks or shells are called sedimentary rocks.

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 2 months ago (6237)

Igneous rocks are formed from the solidification of molten rock material. ... Examples of intrusive igneous rocks are diabase, diorite, gabbro, granite, pegmatite, and peridotite. Extrusive igneous rocks erupt onto the surface, where they cool quickly to form small crystals. Igneous rocks (from the Latin word for fire) form when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies. The melt originates deep within the Earth near active plate boundaries or hot spots, then rises toward the surface. Igneous rocks form when magma (molten rock) cools and crystallizes, either at volcanoes on the surface of the Earth or while the melted rock is still inside the crust. All magma develops underground, in the lower crust or upper mantle, because of the intense heat there. Metamorphic rock can change into igneous or sedimentary rock. Igneous rock forms when magma cools and makes crystals. Magma is a hot liquid made of melted minerals. The minerals can form crystals when they cool.

Igneous — they form from the cooling of magma deep inside the earth. Metamorphic — they are formed through the change (metamorphosis) of igneous and sedimentary rocks. They can form both underground and at the surface. Sedimentary — they are formed through the solidification of sediment.
