The term ‘Industrial Revolution’ stands for those developments and inventions which revolutionised the technique and organisation of production in the later half of the 18 th century. This Industrial Revolution replaced the previous domestic system of production by the new factory system. In place of manual and animal power, new machines and steam power were used for producing things. This revolution replaced cottage industries by factories, hand labour by machine work and craftsmen and artists by capitalists and factory owners.

In Fig. 12.25, ABCD is a square of side 14 cm. With centres A, B, C and D, four circles are drawn such that each circle touch externally two of the remaining three circles. Find the area of the shaded region.

Solution:

Side of square = 14 cm

Four quadrants are included in the four sides of the square.

∴ Radius of the circles = 14/2 cm = 7 cm

Area of the square ABCD = 14= 196 cm2

Area of the quadrant = (πR2)/4 cm2 = (22/7) ×72/4 cm2

= 77/2 cm2

Total area of the quadrant = 4×77/2 cm= 154cm2

Area of the shaded region = Area of the square ABCD – Area of the quadrant

= 196 cm– 154 cm2

= 42 cm2

Solution:

ABC is an equilateral triangle.

∴ ∠ A = ∠ B = ∠ C = 60°

There are three sectors each making 60°.

Area of ΔABC = 17320.5 cm2

⇒ √3/4 ×(side)2 = 17320.5

⇒ (side)2 =17320.5×4/1.73205

⇒ (side)2 = 4×104

⇒ side = 200 cm

Radius of the circles = 200/2 cm = 100 cm

Area of the sector = (60°/360°)×π rcm2

= 1/6×3.14×(100)cm2

= 15700/3cm2

Area of 3 sectors = 3×15700/3 = 15700 cm2

Thus, area of the shaded region = Area of equilateral triangle ABC – Area of 3 sectors

= 17320.5-15700 cm= 1620.5 cm2

Preventive Detention:
Ans. A person can be arrested out of fear that he/ she can engage in unlawful activity and be danger to the law and order of the country. It can be extended for three months only.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 11 months ago (2577571)

It means detention of a person without trial. It does not intend to punish a person for committing a crime but to prevent him from doing so. Thus it isnt a punitive measure bit a precautionary measure. They are detained for at least 3 months without the police telling them why they have been arrested. The time period of their detention can only be increased by an advisory board

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 11 months ago (2898529)

The process of changing water vapour into water is called condensation.
Condensation is simply the process of change of the vapour from gaseous state to liquid when comes in contact of cool surface.
And this process can't be boiling as in boiling we have to provide heat and it is the change of liquid state into vapour form.
And the process is not evaporation as it also changes water into vapour.
Melting is not the required process as it is the change of state from solid to liquid.

Not a creature has been born

The decades of 1951-81 are referred to as the period of population explosion in India because of a rapid fall in death rate and high birth rate. The main causes of this explosion are as follows:

Widening Gap between Birth and Death Rates The average annual birth rate was 42 per thousand population but it came down to 28.7 per thousand in 1981. This shows that the birth rate has shown small decline and death rate has gone down rather sharply. This widening gap has increased our population rapidly.

Low Age of Marriage Child marriage has been very common in our country. As per census report, 72% marriage in India was performed before 15 and 34% before 10 years of age. The mean age at marriage of females increased from 15.6 in 1951 to 17.6 in 1981.

High Illiteracy During this period (1951-81), the overall literacy rate was very low. Due to this, they would be more orthodox, illogical and religious minded.

Religious Attitude towards Family Planning The religiously orthodox and conservative people are against the use of family planning measures. The women disfavoured family planning on the plea that they cannot go against the wishes of God.

Other Causes Joint family system and lack of responsibility of young couples in these families to bring up their children and lack of recreational facilities, and lack of information or wrong information about the adverse effects of vasectomy, tubectomy are some other causes of the rapid growth of population.
