Frank is a young science teacher at the school. We get to know about him from his conversation with the boy Taplow. On the whole, he appears to be a mean and petty person. He envies Crocker-Harris, who keeps his students under control. He provokes Taplow to comment on his teacher and also to imitate his voice. This is unbecoming of a teacher to discuss his colleague with a boy. He suggests to Taplow to slip away because Crocker-Harris is late in coming and the weather is fine. Mrs Millie Crocker-Harris is a kind hearted and easy going person. She is very smart. She rescues Taplow by sending him out on an errand.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 11 months ago (2577571)

Mr Crocker-Harris appears as a stem master who is a man of principles and stickler to the rules. He believes in fair assessment of his students and is not swayed by emotions, as the man is hardly human. He is not a sadist, but strict in performance of his duties. Even on his last day at school, when he is over-busy in his own affairs, he does not neglect his duty towards his students.

Taplow was charged by Mr.Frank that he was exaggerating on the issue of Mr. Crocker Harries. Taplow made the argument about Mr. Crocker Hrries that he possesses the feeling of hatred towards others so that the others may start liking him. To this view, Taplow was charged with exaggeration. He refuted the charge by explaining how people are unable to understand the thoughts of Crocker-Harris which makes him a negative person for others. It is the other people who are unable to understand him.

Frank envies Mr Crocker-Harris for the effect he seems to have on the boys in the form. They all seem scared to death of him. He wants to know what he does: whether he beats them all or does something else which is awe inspiring. Taplow informs Mr Frank that Mr Crocker-Harris is not a sadist.

Crocker-Harris's joke was a classical joke, and it involved Latin as well. Taplow could not understand Latin well, and neither could any of his classmates. Yet he laughed at the joke because he was being polite, he felt a bit sorry for Crocker-Harris for having made a poor joke, and also because none of his other friends laughed at it.

Mr Crocker-Harries is not a sadist like some other masters. He does not get pleasure out of giving pain. If he were a sadist, he would not be so frightening. It would show he has some feelings, but he hasn’t any. He’s all dry like a nut. He seems to hate people to like him, but other masters like being liked.

Taplow knows that a sadist gets pleasure from inflicting pain. But, according to Taplow, Mr. Crocker Harris is not a sadist because he rarely displays any human emotions. Instead Taplow finds Mr. Crocker Harris to be shrunken from within as his emotions are almost dead. He finds it strange how Mr. Harris disliked to be liked.

Frank seems to encourage Taplow’s comments on Crocker-Harris. He shows appreciation for Taplow’s imitation of Mr Crocker-Harris and asks him to repeat it. On smother occasion, Frank tells Taplow not to keep a good joke (narrated in the style of Mr Crocker Harris) to himself but to tell it to others.

Crocker-Harris and Frank are both teachers in Taplow’s school. But they are poles apart in their characters. Crocker is a very strict teacher. He is a man of discipline. He has his own principles. He is true to his duty. He never does any favour or disfavour to his students. On the other hand Frank is not true to his duty. He teaches science. He himself does not like the subject he teaches, but he calls his students slackers. He is jealous of Crocker. He encourages Taplow to say things against Crocker and mock at him. It does not behave a teacher to encourage a student against another teacher. In trying to degrade Crocker-Harris he degrades himself only.

The relationship Between Muslim league and congress saw many upheavals. At times it required cooperation from both while sometimes it stood on complete opposition to each other.

The league -congress relationship had been one of the most controversial issue during the time of Indian Independence.

Both the parties which believed in cooperation and coexistence among the both.

Although the major issue of opposition among the two had been on the question of representation which finally led to partition in the long run.

The period between 1919-20s saw the most harmonious period between the two parties which were never visible in the near future.

Important issue which marked the difference was the Hindu Muslim conflict. Hindus and Muslims the two largest communities living in India entered into pitched political battles as a result of the political developments that captured the Indian freedom struggle.

The differences got more furated with the results of general elections and provincial elections held under the British rule .

As the league failed to gather popular support in comparison to the congress this added to the dissatisfaction.

All this ended up, into loss of innocent lives and division of the subcontinent into two dominion
