Nature of Roots
A quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 has
(i) two distinct real roots, if b2 – 4ac > 0,
(ii) two equal real roots, if b2 – 4ac = 0,
(iii) no real roots, if b2 – 4ac < 0.
Since b2 – 4ac determines whether the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 has real roots or not, b2 – 4ac is called the discriminant of this quadratic equation

Features of a democratic election:
- Every adult citizen should be able to choose. This means that every adult citizen should have one vote and each vote shall carry equal weight.
- Elections should offer choices to the people. There should be various political parties and candidates to choose from.
- The choice of selecting the rulers should be offered at regular intervals. In India, elections are normally held after every five years.
- The most preferred candidate should get elected. In India, we follow the first past the post system, i.e. the candidate who secures the maximum number of valid votes is declared a winner.
- Elections should be held in free and fair manner and people should be in a position to cast their votes without fear or favour.

Trade winds can be defined as the wind that flows towards the equator from the north-east in the Northern Hemisphere or from the south-east in the Southern Hemisphere. These are also known as tropical easterlies and are known for their consistency in force and direction.
These winds are formed when the hot air rises and hits the equator where it is pulled towards the poles making them chilled. These winds are used by the sailors. Christopher Columbus discovered America with the help of trade winds.

When Raju reached his home from school he saw a crowd gathered in front of it. Shocked and disturbed he started running towards it. Many thoughts flashing in his mind he went towards it. He saw a lady badly hit by a car on the road with the car driver dead. He closely looked at the lady and found out that she was his mother. He ran towards the lady and cried bitterly. He called the police and ambulance. Soon the ambulance reached and his mother was shifted to a nearby city hospital. She was bleeding a lot so the doctors took her to the ICU. Raju informed his family members. After an hour the doctor came out and said "Raju your mother is alive and out of danger".

The constitution makers were worried that in an open electoral competition, certain weaker sections may not stand a good chance to get elected to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies. That would make our democracy less representative and less democratic, so they thought of the provision of special system of reserved constituencies for the weaker sections.

Mechanism of respiration involves the breathing mechanism and exchange of gases.
The gaseous exchange occurs by diffusion in the alveoli. It depends upon the pressure differences between blood and tissues, or atmospheric air and blood. The exchange of gases takes place at the surface of the alveolus.
The mechanism of breathing has already been explained above. Let us have a look at the steps involved in the exchange of gases.
Exchange of Gases
The exchange of gases takes place in the following manner:
Transport Of Oxygen
- Oxygen in the blood is carried to the tissue in two forms- Oxyhaemoglobin- chemical composition of oxygen with haemoglobin, and solution of oxygen in the blood plasma.
- The oxygen in the blood combines with haemoglobin when the concentration of oxygen is high in the blood.
- Oxyhemoglobin, being unstable, dissociates to release oxygen. Low oxygen, low pH and high temperatures stimulate the dissociation process.
