Let the distance from A to B = x km Total dist. = x+x = 2x km Time = dist./ speed Time taken from A to B = x km / 30 km/ hr Time taken from B to A = x km / 20 km/ hr Total time = x/30 + x/20 = 2x + 3x/60 = 5x/60 Average speed = 2x/5x/60 = 2x × 60/5x = 2×12 = 24 km/ hr
