Few measures of soil conservation are: (1) Contour ploughing— ploughing along the contour lines can lead to soil conservation. (2) Terrace cultivation— steps can be cut out on the slopes making terraces. Terrace cultivation leads to soil conservation. (3) Creating shelter belts — planting of trees to create shelter. Rows of such trees are called shelter belts.

Conservatism was a political philosophy that stressed the importance of the tradition and preferred gradual development to quick change. Features of the believers of conservatism: (1) They believed in established, traditional institutions of state and society. (2)They believed in a monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, etc. (3)They did not propose a return to the society of pre-revolutionary days. Rather, they realised that modernisation could in fact, strengthen the traditional institutions like the monarchy.
