After reading 3/8 of the book, the remaining fraction 1 - 3/8 = 5/8
The boy then reads 4/5 of 5/8 = 4/5 x 5/8 = 1/2
Total fraction read = 3/8 + 1/2 = 7/8
The unread fraction = 1 - 7/8 = 1/8 This is equivalent to 30 pages
∴ The book has 30 ÷ 1/8 = 240 pages

Generally, you want to pick one with the same symmetry as the charge distribution, such that the magnitude of E is constant (or zero) over the surface. For spherical symmetry, this is a sphere: everywhere equidistant from the centre has the same magnitude E.
