Waterways are the cheapest means of transport. They are most suitable for carrying heavy and bulky goods. It is a fuel-efficient and environment-friendly mode of transport. India has inland navigation waterways of 14,500 km in length. Out of these only 3,700 km are navigable by mechanised boats.
Water transport can be divided into two categories - (a) Inland Waterways and (b) Oceanic Waterways.

Subject: Regarding nuisance of loudspeakers during exams
Sir,
Through your esteemed daily I want to draw the attention of the authorities concerned that nowadays the examination of the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan is going on. The loud-speakers keep blaring throughout the night due to which we are unable to prepare ourselves for the examination since the noise interferes in our studies. If these loudspeakers continue to create a disturbance, we may fail in the examination. It is, therefore, earnestly requested to put a ban against the use of loudspeakers during our examination days. I hope that the authorities concerned will pay attention to solve this problem of the students.
Yours faithfully
Hari Singh

Technology indicates the level of cultural development of society. Human beings were able to develop technology after they developed better understanding of natural laws.
For Example:
(i) The understanding of concept of friction and heat helped us discover fire.
(ii) Understanding of the secrets of DNA ad genetics enabled us to conquer many diseases.
(iii) We use the laws of aerodynamics to develop faster planes.

Filtration is technically defined as the process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid, by causing the latter to pass through the pores of a membrane, called a filter.
Filtration Examples
The most common example is making tea. While preparing tea, a filter or a sieve is used to separate tea leaves from the water. Through the sieve pores, only water will pass. The liquid which has obtained after filtration is called the filtrate; in this case, water is the filtrate. The filter can be a paper, cloth, cotton-wool, asbestos, slag- or glass-wool, unglazed earthenware, sand, or any other porous material. Filtration is used in water treatment and sewage treatment. T

Chemical Method: Some chemicals prevent the growth of microorganisms in food. These chemicals are used in pickles and jams to preserve them. Salt, acids and oil are also used as food preservatives. Examples: sodium benzoate and sodium metabisulphate.
Preservation by common salt: When a food item is kept in plenty of salt, water from food comes out because of osmosis. It results in dehydration of the food item. Absence of moisture helps to prevent the growth of microbes. Fish, meat and pickles are preserved by adding salt.
Preservation by Sugar: Sugar preserves food by reducing moisture in food. Jam, jelly and squash are preserved by adding sugar.
Preservation by Oil and Vinegar: The layer of oil on top of food prevents oxygen from entering the food. Some microbes do not survive in absence of oxygen. Some microbes cannot survive in acidic environment and thus vinegar is an effective food preservative.
