Serfdom was the status of many peasants under feudalism, specifically relating to manorialism, and similar systems.

A serf is a person who is forced to work on a plot of land, especially during the medieval period when Europe practiced feudalism, when a few lords owned all the land and everyone else had to toil on it.

The first principle of his message is the belief in one God. The message of humanism is inseparably bound together with his message of monotheism. The Quran has numerous verses which refer to Allah and his attributes but it is directed at man and his behaviour.

The Quran acknowledges pluralism.

There is no compulsion in religion. Allah has created different communities on purpose, to try and test human beings in what has been given to them. It is His will that the people shall live in peace and harmony with each other.

The message of the Quran is one of hope but not of despair. Compassion and mercy are an ever present theme in the Quran. Hopelessness and the lack of trust in His mercy are condemned in the Quran. Even the sinners are assured not to be in despair of His mercy because Allah forgives all sins. Allah says in His Book: “My mercy encompasses all things.”

Mercy is also a quality of His Prophet, for we are told in the Quran that “to the Believers is he most kind and merciful”. Even a believer should aspire for, if not possess, mercy. The believers are those who are “compassionate amongst each other”, and “exhort one another to mercy”. Man is required to believe in Allah’s mercy and also practise it himself.

Lords owned the serfs who lived on their lands. In exchange for a place to live, serfs worked the land to grow crops for themselves and their lord. In addition, serfs were expected to work the farms for the lord and pay rent.

Serfs are just one class of commoner, or peasant, in the Middle Ages. The English classes detailed below are more or less like most commoners in other kingdoms. Each had different rights and obligations.

A serf is, legally, a slave and a possession of his lord who has no rights beyond his lord’s generosity. A serf had to work his life away doing the hard labor of providing for his lord. He plowed, reaped, threshed, chopped wood, herded animals, fixed implements, built structures, and anything else demanded. A serf had no rights or other obligations, and could not even go to court to get some respite if his lord was cruel and evil.

D) Climate is the long-term average of weather, typically averaged over a period of 30 years. Some of the meteorological variables that are commonly measured are temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, and precipitation. E) During the hot weather season, strong, gusty, hot, dry winds known as the 'Loo' blows. Direct exposure to these winds may even prove to be fatal. Dust storms are very common during the month of May in northern India. These storms bring temporary relief as they lower the temperature.

Gradation is the process of removing unevenness of the land surface and making it a level land. Agents of gradation are running water, wind, glacier, waves, and underground water. Gradation can be of two types- degradation and aggradation.
• Degradation is the process of denudation. It involves weathering, mass wasting and erosion.
• Aggradation is also known as deposition. Eroded materials are deposited in the depressions or lowlands and these areas rise up.

What do you understand by 'crop rotation'? Giving a suitable example, explain how this practice is beneficial to the farmers. ANSWER Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of dissimilar or different types of crops in the same area in sequenced seasons. It helps in reducing soil erosion and increases soil fertility and crop yield. With crop rotation, particular nutrients are replenished depending on the crops that are planted. For example, a simple rotation between heavy nitrogen using plant (e.g., corn) and a nitrogen depositing plant (e.g., soybeans) can help maintain a healthy balance of nutrients in the soil. Crop rotation is beneficial to farmers as they use crop rotation to improve soil nutrients, foster soil quality, minimize soil erosion, and to increase water efficiency. A good rotation using nitrogen-fixing crops like beans helps to sustain farms, increasing productivity and lowering input costs.

Indian textiles had a heavy demand in the international market. Cotton textiles made huge profit as the clothes made out of cotton were comfortable to wear. Moreover, the finish of the hand-made cotton products were good and attracted more customers abroad.

In points:-
(i) Collapse of local and foreign market :
Due to industrialisation in Britain, their export market collapsed. As British traders started exporting machine- made clothes to India, so their local market shrank.

(ii) Shortage of raw material : As raw cotton was being exported to England, there was a shortage of raw materials.
When the American Civil War broke out. and the cotton supplies from the United States were cut off. Britain turned to India. As raw cotton exports Iron India increased, the price of raw cotton shot up Weavers in India were starved of supplies and forced to buy raw cotton at higher prices.

(iii) Clashes with Gomasthas : Gomasthas were appointed by the government to supervise weavers to collect supplies and examine the quality of cloth. The Gomasthas acted arrogantly and punished weavers for delays in supply. So. the weavers dashed with them.

(iv) System of advances: The Britishers started the system of advances to regularise the supply of cotton and cloth. The weavers eagerly took the advances, in a hope to cam more but they faded to do so They even started losing small plots of land which they had earlier cultivated.

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 4 months ago (2577571)

Atomicity

The number of atoms present in a single molecule is termed as its atomicity. It can be classified into three types.

  • The molecules of many elements are composed of only a single atom of that element. They are termed as monoatomic. For instance, Ar (Argon), He(Helium). So their atomicity is one.
  • On the other hand the molecules of many elements are composed of two atoms of that element. For instance, oxygen can never exist independently and exist as O2 molecule known as diatomic So its atomicity is 2.
  • The molecules of many elements are composed of three atoms of that element. They are termed as triatomic For instance, O3, CO2. So their atomicity is 3.
  • The molecules of many elements are composed of four atoms of that element. They are termed as tetra atomic For instance, P4, SO3. So their atomicity is 4.

  • Lightning can be explained in terms of charges produced due to rubbing. During a thunderstorm, the air currents move upwards and the water droplets move downwards. And this caused due to the separation of charge due to this vigorous motion.
  • As a result of this process, the positive charges collect near the upper edge and the negative charges accumulate near the lower edge of the cloud and also near the ground.
  • As the charge gets accumulated, its magnitude becomes very large. Water droplets in the air act as a conductor of this charge.
  • These charges flow to meet, thus producing strikes of lightning and thunder. For this phenomenon to occur, a sufficiently high elect
