This is a story about Mahendra, a junior supervisor and his cook, Iswaran. Former had to keep moving from place to place as ordered by headed office. But he had fortunately an expert caretaker, Iswaran who cooked his meals, washed his clothes and chatted with him at night. Iswaran was very fond of reading Tamil thrillers during his spare time. As a result he innovated his own thrillers and would tell about it to Mahendra. The latter used to hear patiently without finding any loopholes in the story. Iswaran often in his stories narrated about elephants. For example, he told a story about how he paralyzed a mad elephant that had gone berserk. He told that there were timber logs loaded on trucks. But if an elephant went mad no mahout could control it. The elephant now entered a school ground where children were playing, breaking through the brick wall. Children and teachers ran helter and skelter to save jheir lives. The elephant was stunned when Iswaran then only a little boy took a rod and hit at the elephant’s third toe nail. The secret was if the elephant is hit there, his nervous system gets paralyzed. Finally, one day talking about spirits of the ancestors, Iswaran began to talk of ghosts. He said that the place where they had their shed was once a burial ground. He also had come across ghosts but he was not scared of them. He told Mahendra about a woman ghost seen only on a full moon night. She moaned and carried a foetus in her arms. This terrified Mahendra so much that he finally thought of that woman ghost on a full moon night. He could hear a low moan outside his window. He peeped from his window and there stood the ghost of the woman. He flung himself down and found that he was often dreaming of that woman ghost. Iswaran used to ask grinning at Mahendra, “Sir, you were angry with me the other day when I told you about the ghost but didn’t you see her yourself last night ?” Mahendra never used to listen to Iswaran’s questions and finally decided to resign from his job and leave that haunted place

For train A:
Initial velocity, u = 72 km/h = 20 m/s
Time, t = 50 s
Acceleration, aI = 0 (Since it is moving with a uniform velocity)
From second equation of motion, distance (sI)covered by train A can be obtained as:
s = ut + (1/2)at2
= 20× 50 + 0 = 1000 m
For train B:
Initial velocity, u = 72 km/h = 20 m/s
Acceleration, a = 1 m/s2
Time, t = 50 s
From second equation of motion, distance (sII) covered by train A can be obtained as:
sII = ut + (1/2)at2
= 20 X 50 + (1/2)  1  (50)2 = 2250 m
Hence, the original distance between the driver of train A and the guard of train B is 2250 - 1000 = 1250m.

One of the major functions of cytoplasm is to enable cells to maintain their turgidity, which enables the cells to hold their shape. Other functions of cytoplasm are as follows:

  • The jelly-like fluid of the cytoplasm is composed of salt and water and is present within the membrane of the cells and embeds all of the parts of the cells and organelles.
  • The cytoplasm is home to many activities of the cell as it contains molecules, enzymes that are crucial in the break down of the waste.
  • The cytoplasm also assists in metabolic activities.
  • Cytoplasm provides shape to the cell. It fills up the cells thus enabling the organelles to remain in their position. The cells, without cytoplasm, would deflate and substances will not permeate easily from one to the other organelle.

Types of Plastics 1. Thermoplastic: Plastics which can be easily bent or deform on heating are known as thermoplastic. PVC and Polythene are the examples of thermoplastics. 2. Thermosetting plastic: Plastics which do not get deformed or softened on heating when mold once, are called thermosetting plastics. Bakelite and melamine are the examples of thermosetting plastics. Uses of plastics Plastic are poor conductors of heat and electricity. So they are used to make covering of electric wires and handles of tools. Plastics are highly resistant to chemicals and water. Plastics are lightweight, strong and durable and are therefore used to make parts for aircrafts, cars etc.

The French Revolution lasted roughly 10 years, beginning in 1789 and ending in 1799. The French Revolution ended in 1799 with a coup of militry by Napoleon Bonaparte, as he established himself as France’s first consul. The victory of Napoleon over the supposed conquerors re-established the military prowess of France.

All have borne fruit and will bear more, still finer, as we advance towards those wide horizons opening out before us, where, like some great beacon to point the way, flame the words: LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY.

  1. Democracy produces an accountable government: Democracy produces an accountable governments, as the people have the right in choosing their representatives through the electoral process. These elected representatives form the government and participate in the decision-making process on behalf of the people. If these elected representatives do not work properly, people have a chance to not elect them in the next election.
  2. Democracy Produces Responsive Government: Democratic governments are elected by the people and are responsible towards the people and Parliament. These governments promote the formation of public opinion and take care of the needs and expectations of the people.
  3. Democracy Produces Legitimate Government: A democratic government is people’s own government. People wish to be ruled by representatives elected by them. They also believe that democracy is suitable for their country. Democracy’s ability to generate its own support is itself an outcome that cannot be ignored.

Consider the linear motion of a body with an initial velocity u. Let the body accelerate uniformly and acquire a final velocity v after time t. The velocity–time graph is a straight line AB as shown below.

At t = 0, initial velocity = u = OA

At t = t, final velocity = v = OC

The distance S travelled in time t = area of the trapezium OABD

s = (1/2) x (OA + DB) × OD

s = (1/2) x (u + v) × t

Since v = u + at,

s = (1/2) x (u + u + at) × t

s = ut + (1/2) at2

Democracy is preferred over dictatorship because it:

  • Promotes equality among citizens
  • Enhances the dignity of the individual
  • Improves the quality of decision-making
  • Provides a method to resolve conflicts
  • Allows room for correction

Democracy is followed differently across the world on the basis of their social situations, economic achievements and cultures.

Outcomes out of every democracy:

  • As a political outcome of democracy, we expect an accountable, responsive and legitimate government.
  • As an economic outcome, we expect that democracies produce economic growth and development, and reduce poverty and inequality.
  • As a social outcome, we expect democracy to accommodate the social diversity in a society, and provide dignity and freedom to all citizens.

Democracy is just a form of government; it can only create suitable conditions for us. As citizens, we have to take advantage of those conditions and achieve our goals.
