Vacuum, space in which there is no matter or in which the pressure is so low that any particles in the space do not affect any processes being carried on there. It is a condition well below normal atmospheric pressure and is measured in units of pressure (the pascal).

The concepts of assertion and reasoning have been stated in class 9 syllabus of science for students.
assertion refers to a situation when one is very confident about what he/she is saying. So it involves a positive belief about something and it is generally a fact or a belief.
On the other hand, in case of reasoning, one needs to be presented with a number of logical facts or figures before he/she can believe upon anything. So this is used for methodology and other cases.
But both these terms might not be in relation with one another at the same time.
Example:
Assertion: Light is not considered as matter.
Reason: Light does not occupy space, has no mass or volume.
(a) Both assertion and reason are correct and reason is the correct explanation for assertion.
(b) Both assertion and reason are correct and reason is not the correct explanation for assertion.
(c) Assertion is correct but reason is incorrect.
(d) Both assertion and reason are incorrect.
Complete step by step answer:
> First, let us understand about matter in detail.
> Matter is a substance that has inertia and occupies physical space. As considered to modern physics, matter of various types of particles, each with mass and size. Matter can exist in several states. The three most common states are known as solids, liquids and gas. It is important to know that plasma is not a common state of matter on earth, but it is considered as the most common state in the universe.
Now, let us know about light.
Light is electromagnetic waves, its speed in vacuum is constant, it interacts with matter as a wave-like or a particle-like. In photoelectric effect it behaves as a particle –like, while in the interference it behaves as a wave-like.
For a more in-depth look, if we recall the definition of matter, “matter is anything that has mass and takes up space”. Well, light doesn’t have mass, and it doesn’t take up space; photons don’t repel each other when they get too close together the way atoms do. So, no, light doesn't matter.
Hence, both assertion and reason are correct and reason is the correct explanation for assertion. Therefore, option A is the required answer.

When an inductor and capacitor are connected together , energy flows from capacitor to inductor and then back to capacitor. This process continues forever in the absence of resistance in a cyclic oscillatory manner. Since there is no resistance, energy can not dissipate via inductor and capacitor and the whole energy of the system continues to swing back and forth between inductor and capacitor.
Let a capacitor which is initially charged as Q₀ and an inductor with initial current 0 are connected together.
So the initial energy of the system,
U₀ = energy stored in the capacitor + energy stored in the inductor
= Q₀²/2C + 0
= Q₀²/2C
when the switch is closed current starts flowing in the circuit and capacitor starts discharging, this current flows in the circuit until the capacitor is discharged completely. Let the final maximum current be I₀.
So final energy stored in the system now
Uₙ = energy stored in the capacitor + energy stored in the inductor
= 0 + LI₀²/2
= LI₀²/2
This current continues to flow in the circuit even after the capacitor is discharged totally because the inductor opposes the change in current. So this current now starts charging the capacitor until it is fully charged in the reverse polarity. This cycle of energy flow continues forever.
At any point the energy stored in the system will be the sum of energy stored in the capacitor and inductor.
U = Q²/2C + LI²/2
Since there is no resistance in the circuit energy dissipation does not takes place and the total energy of the system always remains constant.
Hence ,
U = Q²/2C + LI²/2 = LI₀²/2 = Q₀²/2C

Lungs are located in the chest cavity and separated from stomach and other parts of digestive system by a diaphragm. During breathing, intercostal muscles of ribs contract and relax which causes change in the volume of thorax.
During inhalation rib cage is raised and diaphragm lowers as intercostal muscles contract while during exhalation rib cage is lowered, diaphragm moves up, as intercostal muscles relax.
To ensure that clean atmospheric air is taken in during inhalation, there are hairs in nose which filter the air, trapping dirt in the mucus secreted from the epithelial lining.
In addition, epithelium in trachea also consists of ciliated cells. Cilia continuously beat upward to sweep the mucus from throat to the pharynx. Special goblet cells secrete mucus to trap the dirt from the inhaled air.
Cilia sweep it upward and it is swallowed from the pharynx into the adjacent oesophagus. Hence, the air entering lungs is free from dirt particles.

Transparent medium is denser medium as compared yo air bubble,as we know whenever light travels from a denser medium to rared medium it bends aways from normal, hence air bubble inside a transparent medim behaves like a diverging lens as it diverges the rays(moves away from normal).

- Forests and wildlife preserve our life support systems, i.e., water, air and soil. For example, the plants, animals and micro-organisms recreate the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink and the soil that produces our food without which we cannot survive.
- It also preserves the genetic diversity of plants and animals for better growth and breeding of species. For example, in agriculture we are still dependent on traditional crop varieties.
- Fisheries too are heavily dependent on the maintenance of aquatic biodiversity.
- Forests are primary producers on which all other living beings depend not only for food but indirectly for many other forest produces which are used for varied purposes.

The most stable conformation of a protein at a given temperature and the pH is known as its native state.
• The loss of biological activity of proteins when a protein in its native form, is subjected to physical change like change in temperature or chemical change like change in pH, is called denaturation of protein.
• For example: (i) Coagulation of egg white on boiling, (ii) curdling of milk which is caused due to the formation of lactic acid by the lactobacillus bacteria present in milk.

The following factors are responsible for the huge diversity in flora and fauna kingdom in our country:
(i) Land:. Land affects the natural vegetation directly and indirectly. The nature of land influences the type of vegetation. The fertile level is generally devoted to agriculture. The undulating and rough terrains are areas where grassland and woodland develop and give shelter to a variety of wildlife,
(ii) Soil: Different types of soil provide basis for different types of vegetation. The sandy soils of the desert support cactus and thorny bushes while wet marshy, deltaic soils support mangroves and deltaic vegetation. The hill slopes with some depth of soil have conical trees..
(iii) Temperature: Temperature along with humidity in the air, precipitation and soil determine the character and extent of vegetation. On the slopes of the Himalayas and the hills of the peninsula above the height of 915 metres, the fall in temperature affects the types of vegetation and its growth and changes it from tropical to subtropical temperature and alpine vegetation.
(iv) Sunlight: The variation in duration of sunlight at different places also affect the growth of trees. Due to longer duration in sunlight, trees grow faster in summers..
(v) Precipitation: In India almost the entire rainfall is brought in by the advancing southwest monsoon (from June to September) and retreating north-east monsoons. Areas of heavy rainfall have more dense vegetation as compared to other areas of less rainfall.
