The medium with high optical density is called denser medium The medium with low optical density is called rarer medium

Adithya Dev A 4 years, 9 months ago (10643926)

A medium with low optical density is known as an OPTICALLY RARER medium. This medium has lower refractive index and speed of light is high here. Whereas, a medium with high optical density is known as an OPTICALLY DENSER medium. This medium has higher refractive index and speed of light is low here. Eg :- Air is an optically RARER medium and diamond is an optically DENSER medium.

उपेंद्र वर्मा 4 years, 9 months ago (10761741)

The medium in which light bends towards the normal is known as denser medium and in which it moves away from the normal it is known as rarer medium, for example- air is rarer and water is denser medium as compared both of them.

Settlements are classified on the basis of their shape, patterns types which are discussed below: • Compact or Nucleated settlements: In these settlements large number of houses is built very close to each other. Such settlements develop along river valleys and in fertile plains. Communities are closely knit and share common occupations. Dispersed Settlements: In these settlements, houses are spaced far apart and often interspersed with fields. A cultural feature such as a place of worship or a market, binds the settlement together Rural Settlement Patterns Patterns of rural settlements contemplate the way the houses are sited in relation to each other. The site of the village, the surrounding topography and terrain influence the shape and size of a village. Rural settlements may be classified on the basis of a number of criteria: (i) On the basis of setting: The main types are plain villages, plateau villages, coastal villages, forest villages and desert villages. (ii) On the basis of functions: There may be farming villages, fishermen’s villages, lumberjack villages, pastoral villages etc. (iii) On the basis of forms or shapes of the settlements: These may be a number of geometrical forms and shapes such as Linear, rectangular, circular star like, T-shaped village, double village, cross-shaped village etc. • Linear pattern: In such settlements houses are located along a road, railway line, and river, canal edge of a valley or along a levee. • Rectangular pattern: Such patterns of rural settlements are found in plain areas or wide inter montane valleys. The roads are rectangular and cut each other at right angles. • Circular pattern: Circular villages develop around lakes, tanks and sometimes the village is planned in such a way that the central part remains open and is used for keeping the animals to protect them from wild animals. • Star like pattern: Where several roads converge, star shaped settlements develop by the houses built along the roads. • T-shaped, Y-shaped, Cross-shaped or cruciform settlements: T –shaped settlements develop at tri-junctions of the roads while –shaped settlements emerge as the places where two roads converge on the third one and houses are built along these roads. Cruciform settlements develop on the cross-roads and houses extend in all the four direction. • Double village: These settlements extend on both sides of a river where there is a bridge or a ferry.

The three phases of the author’s relationship with his grandmother before he left the country to study abroad were:
(a) Admiration and friendship – The author admired his grandmother and described her as the “winter landscape in the mountains, an expanse of pure white serenity breathing peace and contentment”. They were good friends. She woke him up in the morning and got him ready for school. She waited for him while he was in school and then walked him back.

(b) Growing distant – She could not accompany him to school as he went by the school bus. He was now in an English school, where they taught science. She could not understand English and did not believe in science. The fact that they were not taught about god made her unhappy. Khushwant Singh’s learning music in school made her unhappier as she felt it was not meant for gentle folk.

(c) Wide gulf – When he went to the university, he got a separate room and even the last link of a shared room was snapped. The grandmother kept to her spinning wheel, rarely talking to anyone.

Wind is air in motion. It is produced by the uneven heating of the earth's surface by the sun. Since the earth's surface is made of various land and water formations, it absorbs the sun's radiation unevenly. Two factors are necessary to specify wind: speed and direction.
