8. Indu’s pencil is 15cm long. Jyoti’s pencil is 8 cm long. Whose pencil is 8 cm long. Whose pencil is longer? How much longer?

Ans. Indu’s pencil = 15 cm

Jyoti’s pencil = 8 cm

Pencil is longer = 15 cm – 8 cm = 7 cm

Indu’s pencil is longer by 7 cm.


9. Ask your Papa or Mummy

Price of 1 kilo salt –

Price of 1 kilo sugar –

Which one is more costly?

How much more does it cost?

Ans. Price of 1 kilo salt Rs. 10

Price of 1 kilo sugar Rs. 22

= Rs. (22- 10) = Rs. 12

Thus, sugar cost more than salt by Rs. 12.


10. Ajay cooked chapatis in 25 minutes. Then he made dal in 15 minutes. How much time did he take to cook both things?

Ans. Time taken to make chapatis = 25 minutes

Time taken to make dal = 15 minutes

Total time taken = 40 minutes

Look at the above and answer the following questions:

(a) How many grey sweaters did Chanchal sell in 2 days.

Ans. (a) Grey sweaters sold in 2 days = 74 + 89 = 163.

(b) Did she sell more red sweaters than blue sweaters in 2 day?

Ans.(b) Red sweaters sold in 2 days = 38 + 40 = 78

Blue sweaters sold in 2 days = 66+ 23 = 89

Therefore, Chanchal did not sell more red sweaters than blue sweaters (as 78 is less than 89).

(c) How many red and grey sweaters did she sell on the first day – more than 120 or less than 120?

Ans. (c) Number of red and grey sweaters sold in first day= 38 + 74 = 112

Clearly, 112 is less than 120

Less than 120

(d) How many sweaters in all did she sell on the second day – more than 140 or less than 140?

Ans. (d) Number of sweaters sold on the second day = 40 + 23 + 89 = 152

Clearly, 152 is more than 140.


12. Nisha And Sonu were making story problems. Nisha said- 13 boys and 14 girls in a class. Sonu, can you make a problem on it? There sonu wrote There are 13 boys and 14 girls in a class.  How many students are there together? You can also make story problems with your friends. Look at each and the words next to it. Write your problem below it.

(a) 36 men and 52 women waiting for their turn

Ans.  There are 36 men and 52 women are waiting for their turn. How many men and women are there altogether?

(b) We have our mid day meal in 20 minutes and play for 15 minutes.

Ans. We took our mid day meal in 20 minutes and play for 15 minutes. Find the total time taken.

(c) The post office is 1 kilometere from Shahid’s home and 2 kilometre from his school.

Ans. Find the distance between Shahid’s home and school.

(d) Bunty has read 27 books and Babli has read books.

Ans. (d) Bunty has read 27 books and Babli has read books. Find the total number of books read by both.


13. Once there was a king who could only up to 9. Up to what number can you count? The king loved horses. He kept them in such a way that he needed to count only up to 9 each side.

How many horses in all did the king have?

Ans. 24 horses.


14. One day a visitor with 4 horses come there. It was getting dark so he wanted to stay there night. But the horse-keeper was scared. If the king saw these extra horses he would be very angry! The visitor said do not worry. The king will never know. So he arranged the horses like this:

How many horses are there now?

Ans. 28 horses are there now.

15. At night the king came to count the horses. Along each side he counted 9 horses. Ah! That’s find – he said. Then he happily went to sleep. In the morning the clever visitor tried another trick. He took out his own 4 horses. But he also ran away with some of the king’s horses. He left the king’s horses standing in this way. The silly king did not find any horse missing. Can you help him? How many horses are now left?

Ans. 20 horses are now left.


16. How many king’s horses were taken away?

Ans. Four of the king’s horses were taken away by the clever visitor.


17. What numbers are we? If you add us both you get 100. The difference between us is also 100.

Ans. One number is 100 and the other is zero.
