The Central Board of Secondary Education is all set to roll out the grading system and do away with the conventional method of evaluation.

Though, CBSE is formulating a detailed plan for this, teachers and parents are apprehensive of the implementation of the decision that is hanging fire since last many years.

Students and teachers are desperately awaiting the implementation of the grading system. A source in CBSE regional office revealed that they have been asked to submit a proposal in this regard, to clarify certain issues, including how grading should actually be done.

Those securing over 90% marks would get A grade indicating their outstanding performance in the test. Further grades would be A1, B, B1, C, C1, D, D1 and E. And students would be awarded grades at par with their scores. The new grading system may be something like that.

As per sources, the CBSE has prepared the format of an aptitude exam which schools can use to test Class X students on their level of understanding in each subject. The emphasis, however, will be on continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) through the year instead of a single public exam at the end of Class X.

CBSE had prepared a detailed blueprint for the changes and all their concerns were adequately addressed in it. ‘‘We, at CBSE, have decided to go the CCE way soon, as it won’t be a huge problem implementing it since the methodology of teaching we practice at Class X is same in Class VI and VII. So, if we introduce CCE at Class IX and X, it too will have the trickle-down effect,’’ said Joshi.

On the issue of creating two categories of students, one who took the Class X boards and another who didn’t, Joshi said: ‘‘First of all, it is to provide flexibility to students and de-stress the education system. But at any point of time if a student wants to test himself, he/she can go for the ‘online on demand assessment test’. The test is equivalent to that of the Class X board exam and thus if a student need any certification, that test would suffice.’’ Moreover, CBSE is also preparing an aptitude test that students can take to test their understanding of the study done during Class X days.

Meanwhile, in order to ensure credible internal evaluation, all new schools need to be accredited by an agency for three year before CBSE affiliates them. The existing affiliated schools also need to be accredited within three years.

  1. Can u pl. ask Mr.Sibal weather he himself has given Xth board exams or not. If yes then he should abolish this news., If not then it is fine.

If we want to give S.A.T. paper they require yr 10th marks & people like this in our country does not want the childrens to study hard.
I still recomend him not to take this step & let the children should do well in the 10th board exams.

  2. Respected sir,I agree with the fact that the system of education needs to be changed in such a way that it should match with the requirement of the present generation but I have something to share with you.

1.CBSE system has been doing well globally.

2.The class X passed students have been doing too well in subjects and in their personality thereafter.

3.I don’t think that the students are undergoing stress due to education system. They undergo stress due to many other elements included in their lives.Being a teacher,I strongly believe that we the yelders should not take a hasty decision which would hamper the academic standerds of the students and the nation at large.

4.CBSE has been coming-up with too good system in order to standardise the education in our country.

5.Please organise a debate with the students of below average, average and gifted students seperately to know the reality.

6.Let us not underestimate our students. They are enjoying the learning process. Some of them are keen on scoring every mark. Why should we supress their quality.

7.The burdon can be reduced by diminishing the homework , introducing semester system ete.

8.My strong feeling is that we are degrading our education system by introducing the new grading system.

9.Let us not realise the ill-effects of the new system and go back to the old one.

  3. I think boards should not be made optional as an average scoring child will definately not participate and the competion level will also rise, parents will also pressurise their children to give boards and people will preffer the students who have given boards. If boards are made optional there’ll be more such drawbacks thereby i feel that boards should be compeletely finished for 10th grade!

  4. helloo sir/ madam,

I am sorry but it’s not the right way to impose your new rules over the students. You should have told it earlier, atleast in july. So, I think you should stick to your decision but for the next session. It can create problem for the present session 2009-10.

I hope certain action will be taken .

  5. I THNK GRADING SYSTEM WILL NT. HELP AT ALL BECAUSE STUDENT GETTING 91% WILL BE TREATED SAME AS STUDENT GETTING 99%;;
IT WILL NT. HELP TO UNDERSTAND STUDENTS ABILITY AND DISTRESS THE STUDENTS MORE …

  6. well….i m happy that many changes r being made to reduce burden from our shoulders…but i would like to share my views…v dont feel dat boards r burden 4 us…bt the burden is excessive syllabus…v have to mug up the whole book for the exams….this is what burden is….i think if syllabus will be lessened for exams den definitely even an average mark student will not feel scared at all to give exams…

  7. sir plz take back this grading system as this will not help children more as if we’ii not know our marks as 1 marks can change our grade as one person has got 89 marks and one has got 90 marks they both have difference of only one marks but their grades will be different one who has got 90 marks will go in a grade but other one who has only one mark less will be in A1 grade so plz think once again its about our future plz hope so

  8. i think grading system must be taken back. if a child has got 89 and another has got 90 he will be given grade A1 and other A2 . so plzzzzz think once agin.

  9. what are you doing sibal sir,
you have messed up the whole system……..we are so much confused . do something or our country will go into the hands of darkness.

  10. i whole heartedly OPPOSE d fact that boards should b abolished.Indian Education System and their out-come product is appreciated by World Community and even the President of USA Mr.B.Obama in his speech told that the success of the Indian students generally based on the quality education offered by their parents and Schools. There is no sophisticated infrustructure provided by the Government run schools and even maximum private schools. The success rate among the students are basically competative mind of the students. Abolising Board Exam will demoralise the vast section of pupils to hard work in studies. Due to lack of infrastructure, the students of major school in India do not get chance to show their individual talent resulting brain-drain.Optional Exam does not have its REAL MEANING.Now all the students will take their studies lightly.

Scrapping of board exams will not end the stress – it will only SHIFT the stress.

Secondly sometimes teachers underestimate certain students….boards gives a chance to prove once ability.

  11. i think this system is not good as it will be a partialty with the students passed out the exams . student will now not pay attention to schooling n will run towards private coaching centres 4 preparation of competative exams

  12. m in d present 10th batch 2009-10 ………………..if v r 2 leave d skool n join oder one v require % (our score) as admn are done on d basis of cut-offs ……will v get our marks along wid d grades in such a situation?
    do reply………..

  13. as the grading system should be abolished as it affects the students. the 10th is the challenge for all to do well and score good marks but now it become very simplified. it quite unfair with those students who are scoring 90% and 94%are categorised in the same group. it is also taking away the competative spirit also. the students doesn’t know their poisitionof studies.as the life is full of storms and thunder which fight these two enemies is a successful person in life. so the grading system should be abolished

  14. no….dont do this…..i love boards…given them thrice….planning to give it 3 times more…grade wont help…need to c poor marks….dont take it away from me.marks goooood,grades baaaaad…ok SIBAL.remember I LOVE BOards ….litle drunk,thoda sorry

  15. The move to imply grading system is definitely a bane as it leaves a vacum hard to be filled in the age of global competion. It is like you are removing a weight from the head of a student and putting a another weight on him.The students will face much more stress in the senior secondary exams. Also the gradin g will produce lakhs of directionles youths who wil not be able to know their competencies. While there is so much pressure on one side, grafing system shoud not be implied. It is a standard that every child must clear.if grading system is imlied students will not be mentally equipped to face universities exams and later the pressure on the job.Hence.the move to imply such a system is may be proved not to remove the stress but just posponing it.

  16. the whole of grading system doesn’t make sense to me……..how will it help to bring the stress down……….our stress is mainly because of the vast portions which we r given to study……..this is not fair…..especially for those who have taken the challenge to score the best.now no one will take studies seriously…and those who used to score very well………..might score bad

  17. since FA s r to be conducted by school there is no uniform system. one school takes test of one chapter and assesses the student and one school takes test of three chapters and assesses the child. where is the uniformity in the system? students are at the mercy of schools and teacher. so its better that we have boards and child can have the chance of being evaluated by an impartial authority.

  18. sir, i think the board has made the wrong decision
i feel so bad for not keeping the board.
if there is no board then how can we show our talents? this cce pattern is tougher than board
pl i request u to keep the board exam for 10th.if there is no board there will be no competition between us and there will be no interest among us to study.i request u to keep the board with regards of my friends also.

  19. cce patern has increased our stress to extent i always got above 90% marks in all subjects….., but cce has damaged my studies… previously i dont interact with teacher very much, but this time i have to give equal respond on the teacher also.. what is this? pls change the system to previous one… our whole career is dependent on this………………

  20. this cce method is just a show off, the pressure has not decreased infact increased.

Teachers themselves are confused and biased to give marks to their own favorites who is going to look after that, getting partial.

Syllabus other than the SA1 cannot be touched before SA1, now only 4 months will be left for SA2 and approx 9 chapters in all subjects all major festivals on the calender,

Students barely get time to study just busy with internet useless projects submissions copying from anothers copy or book, though the submissions will not be of any use after SA1.

Chapters included in SA1 will not be revised thereafter in this academic year so students opting for p c m or bio will face a lot of problems in 11 class .

Internet can be a vital part for college students but at this tender age of 14 or 15 this is disgusting for students to put themselves in net world serving a huge amount of shit stuff,

The generation who studied through previous method or faced board exams are quite equipped with better ideas and performing good in present scenario so why to put this cce method where teachers will behave like lord of rings .

In country like india having a large no of festivals students now hardly getting time to be with there family and share some values through social gatherings
Now in this present system hardly gets time to sleep, this method was’nt good for US niether for indian where a child is more attached to his parents , this method is creating a hole in parents and childs relationship

i request mr kapil sibal to please withdraw this and resume board exams, and do not make the generation weak rather make them strong

  21. yes this true plz remove this grading system its too bad if a student get 89 then also it will a2 whats it value one other thing if iam giving board exam the certificate of both same or what

  22. sir, please grading system remove kar dijiye es se bhache aapni kabiliyat sabhit nahi kar payenge aur yaha grading system bhut hi jayada karab hai plese remove it. bhacho  ko ghyan se wanchit kiya ja raha hai.

  30. You’re all wrong about CCE. I have just completed class 10 and it has become very easy to pass through the exams… The initial confusion is slowly subsiding and I feel a year more would settle all the remaining problems. The SGAI has helped me understand my abilities. The proficiency test is optional and is great by the look of it! As for SA2 it is much better than boards. Only half the syllabus comes and we’ll only be graded.
On the whole if you study well then you can clear class 10 on a frictionless surface!!
Initially I loathed CCE. What with projects and all. But it is fun. Now we don’t give exams all through the year. No pre-boards, no boards…only small class tests and orals to test our knowledge….Although I cannot say anything against bias…It is the biggeat problem. All the nonsense about we being democrats should not be raised!(No offence!) The reason CCE is not being implemented in class 11 is because they want to know our response..My queries have been answered through interacting with the chairman. ALL SEEMS WELL! Don’t worry. Its just because we are the first batch that it feels such a muddle…I have confidence in the system. The verry ideal that a students personality is what that matters not only academic performance is something we’ve been waiting for..ITS A BREATHER! Don’t foil Sibal’s plans. They’ll do us good!

  31. One more thing..I just realized that you’re saying people will not take studies seriously…is it? Earlier students didn’t interact, but now you have to…is that a good argument?…really stupid!! You won’t be prepared for life if you don’t take part in debates and seminars. If you have experience of any interview, they assess your personality…Thay don’t care a sh*t what your marks are. Studies will become more fun! But teachers will have to cooperate.

  32. Sir this system is oingto destroy the career of each student
    plz implement the older system
we want to know our marks
hw such hardorkers can get priced for their ability
Sibbal sir u have messed up whole system and know u r doing the worst with us i wholeheartedly oppose this system
now there will be more divisions of board and local
    i hate this grading system
I want old system to be reimplemented.
    Plz save our future
CBSe older board system is performing well and there was no need to made such big change only the stress is of huge syllabus and the only need is to divide it in terms and uniformility of Fa in all schools must be there plz imply the marking system again

  33. This CCE is a gift to students as numbers are ommited and hence a lesser chance for students to fail in eggjam. We all complaint about CCE we all think that it’s bad 91% will be equal to 100% but a big plus point related with it is that it has stopped students to comitt suicide.
        HOW?????…
Before CCE the students( class 10) were worried about their results ,exams & their preparation.if their marks are not good or they fail they get a heap of scoldings in home and their mind thinks something else . It force them to comitt suicide. But now due to CCE the students are not going to attempt suicide as 40 marks from teacher will work wonders and will help to pass easily and they will not be in tention or anxieties.
Another thing is that the students of class 9&10 will now get a taste of Board exams and will be prepared for their Class 12 board exams. So they will be able to plan for their next coming board.
